Moto X4 Android One Edition Starts Receiving Android 8.1 Oreo

Moto X4 Receives Android Oreo Update in India

According to multiple posts on Reddit, the Android One edition of the last year’s Moto X4 has started to receive the Android 8.1 Oreo update. As can be seen from the screenshot below, the update comes with build no. OPW28.46-3 and brings along the March 2018 Security Patch. The device had received Android 8.0 Oreo recently, after launching with Android 7.1 Nougat late last year.

With the update, the Moto X4 is expected to benefit from all the little tweaks and improvements that Android 8.1 brings over Android 8.0, including the Pixel Launcher, a redesigned Power Menu, new shutdown and reboot animation, and rounded Statusbar icons. The newest stable version of Android also brings new dark and light themes that change according to the wallpaper, although, the much-requested ‘Dark Mode’ continues to remain conspicuous by its absence.

The update is currently only believed to be rolling out in the US, but it shouldn’t be long before users in the rest of the world also start getting the notification on their respective devices, if they haven’t got it already. You can also check for the availability of the latest software on your handset by going over to Settings > About Phone > Software Updates.

It’s worth restating that the aforementioned update is only available for the Android One version of the Moto X4, so you might have a wait a bit longer to get the software on your handset if you own the standard Moto edition. There’s no ETA for that just yet, but given that the update process has already started, it should only be a matter of time before it starts rolling out to all versions of the device.
