Xiaomi is set to unveil a new device in India tomorrow and looking at the attention selfies are getting on the company’s social media, we expect the device to be the next iteration in the Redmi Y series, which was introduced last year. Along with the smartphone, the company will also be pulling the wraps off the global version of MIUI 10.
Only a week ago, the Chinese version of MIUI 10 was shown off by the company in an event alongside its new flagship Mi 8, a lighter version Mi 8 SE, and the limited Mi 8 Explorer Edition (with the controversial transparent glass back). Back then, the company did not share a solid timeline about the global launch but now the news has been confirmed by the company itself.
Official MIUI announcement and discussion portal, miui.com, has announced that Xiaomi India will be revealing the global version of MIUI 10 at the smartphone launch event on June 7 i.e. tomorrow. Xiaomi India’s chief Manu Jain also left strong hints about the launch of the custom ROM without spilling out many details. But now that the news comes from Xiaomi itself, there is no room for any doubt.
There has been no announcement about the availability of the ROM for beta testers and early adopters yet, but just like the Chinese variant, we expect it to launch a day or two after the launch.
MIUI 10 brings some new features built around AI for improvement in performance. Among the new features, you get a vertical Recents section for efficiency in multitasking, a redesigned notifications and quick settings panel, and AI-based camera enhancements. Another big highlight is the slew of swipe gestures for navigation, improved over the gestures in MIUI 9.5 (but limited only to smartphones with 18:9 and taller displays).
There is no information about the release of the stable MIUI 10 build for users but we’ll update you on it as soon as Xiaomi announces wider availability. Meanwhile, you can check out the top features of MIUI 10 in our video:
