Genshin Impact Natlan is currently in full flow with version 5.0, dropping some very interesting lore drops during the Archon quest. For the first time in Genshin Impact, we are seeing a tradition of Archons who are not deities, gods, or otherworlders, but humans. The 5.0 Archon quests gave us a brief look at Natlan’s history, revealing that the Archons of Natlan are humans who are chosen based on their during the Trials of the Sacred Flame. This means that anyone from Natlan can effectively become the Pyro Archon, but there is a massive problem with this entire thing and that is the original vision of the chosen heroes of Natlan.
If anyone can become the Pyro Archon, then does it mean that someone with a Hydro vision can also become a Pyro Archon? The Pyro Archon must be a Pyro element user as that’s literally the name of the job. Now, the question is what happens to the original vision of the hero who becomes the Pyro Archon. And I have an interesting theory regarding this debacle, and it connects to the lack of any Pyro character in Natlan so far in the game.
Correction: Auntie Atea of the ‘People of the Springs’ is the only NPC who has been seen with a Pyro vision, but she did not showcase any Pyro elemental abilities during her appearance in the Archon quest.
Where Are All the Pyro Characters in Natlan?
When we are talking about the native of Natlan becoming the Pyro Archon, the possibility of someone with a vision other than Pyro becoming the Archon is a lot more. So, the question arises is whether ascending to the Pyro Archon gives the native the Pyro element or not and do they have to give up their vision. So far we have not seen any native of Teyvat being able to use multiple visions, other than Kazuha Kaedehara for that one brief moment in Inazuma.
Now, this becomes even more complicated when you realize that there is no other Pyro character in Natlan revealed so far other than Mavuika herself. Every tribe of Natlan represents an element — Cryo, Anemo, Geo, Hydro, Dendro, and Electro.
The only tribe missing so far, nor represented in any of the symbolism as well, is the Pyro tribe. Other than that, no other NPC or champions as they call them in Natlan have been revealed using the Pyro element in the game.
So, the only thing this points towards is that there are no Pyro vision wielders in the Pyro Nation of Natlan. Even the Pyro Archon may just be borrowing the power of Pyro instead of actually wielding a Pyro vision.
Traveler Unable to Receive the Pyro Element from the Statue of the Seven
Another break in trend from other regions of Genshin Impact is the Traveler failing to get the Pyro element from the Statue of the Seven. This was explained in the 5.0 Livestream that certain underlying problems in the Pyro Nation of Natlan is preventing the Traveler from getting the Pyro element, and they will get the power after fixing those issues through the Archon quests. This underlying problem with Pyro Nation may not be limited to the Traveler, but the reason behind no Pyro vision wielders in Natlan as well.
From recent leaks, we have also learned that the Traveler will keep the Pyro Gnosis at the end of the Archon Quest in Natlan. This is another break in trend as normally the Fatui have always won away the Gnosis in every other region, and this time they have sent the strongest among them — Il Capitano. But if the leaks are true and the Traveler keeps the Pyro Gnosis, there is a possibility that this is the event that will trigger the Pyro element for the traveler.
But let’s not stop digging! What if the Traveler actually becomes the Pyro Archon by the end of the Archon Quest?
Traveler Might Become the Next Pyro Archon
Now before you start calling me names in the comment section, let me explain my theory first. Natlan is going to be the last destination before the altercation against the Tsaritsa in Snezhnaya, which will basically take the story to the end-game. This means that the Traveler will need a massive power boost in terms of lore to tackle the upcoming adversities. In every other Hoyoverse game, we have come across this trend of the main character eventually becoming the god or deity equivalent in the game.
In the Honkai Impact 3rd, Kiana Kaslana and Raiden Mei both become Herrschers, even changing the Herrscher type later down the story to have more story significance. Similarly in Honkai Star Rail, it has been hinted for a long time that the Trailblazer is Akivili, either revived or reborn. So, having the Traveler become an Archon before the final battle doesn’t seem that far-fetched, especially when it is an Archon that has been dead for years with Humans taking on the mantle from time to time.
However, these all might just be the ravings of a madman who failed on his last 50-50 on Mualani (that’s me!). So, help me out here and give your opinion on this entire theory of mine in the comment section below.
