As promised in the Season 7 roadmap, the Lower Manhattan map has officially arrived in Marvel Rivals. Built for the Convergence objective, this arena packs a stunning level of detail while emphasizing high-paced, close-range gameplay. Its layout is also pretty straightforward, but it’s always nice to have some handy tips. With this in mind, we’ve put together a Marvel Rivals Lower Manhattan map guide, covering the best chokepoints, winning strategy, hero comp, and more.

Marvel Rivals Lower Manhattan Map and UAV Explained

As mentioned at the start, the Marvel Rivals Lower Manhattan map is tied to the Convergence game mode. In line with Rivals Season 7 theme, it hosts a timeline incursion as Alchemax’s Headquarters from the year 2099 as it crashes into modern-day Manhattan. The futuristic tech quickly gets to work on corrupting New York, prompting Mayor Fisk to look for dangerous solutions.

Visually, the map brings a strong mix of atmosphere as you’ll be strolling through iconic New York avenues one second before fighting in the cramped corridors of a high-tech lab. You’ll find a plethora of easter eggs in nearly every nook and cranny. The likes of Red Hood, Spider-Man 2099, Norman Osborn, Doc Ock, and Curt Connors also receive direct references. And we even get the first in-game model of the Kingpin in the map’s subsections.

On top of this, Lower Manhattan brings a brand-new gameplay modifier to the mix: a UAV scanning feature that reveals the locations and Ultimate charge percentages for both teams. The “Scanned” effect is triggered automatically by a drone that surveys the area, so keep your eyes peeled for its blue detection lasers.

When active, you’ll see enemy positions through walls along with their Ultimate ability levels. There’s also a checkmark icon that appears if the player’s Ult is ready to go. Fans online have been referring to the Scanned effect as a “wallhack,” because that’s essentially what this is. However, any potential advantages are crossed out by the fact that this effect applies to both teams.

The biggest gameplay impact of the Scanned effect is that it makes diving a nightmare. Heroes such as Spider-Man and Hulk rely on quick movement to push past the enemy’s frontline. If their positioning is constantly tracked, those sudden ambushes become extremely difficult.

Best Chokepoints and Destructible Areas in Marvel Rivals Lower Manhattan Map

Based on our experience so far, there are three primary chokepoints on the Lower Manhattan map in Marvel Rivals. Across all three locations, the action gets funneled into tightly-knit corners where versatile Duelists tend to thrive. Similarly, melee-centric Vanguards are the best picks across these chokepoints, while mobile healers with self-peel should ideally fill the Strategist slot.

The Courtyard

Your opening skirmishes will take place in and around the Empire State School. But sitting just outside the building is an open courtyard with narrow lanes. Prepare for intense, close-range combat at this spot, especially since there are only two directions to approach the building from.

For the attacking team, a beefy tank like The Thing should ideally attract attention at the main gateway while the other frontliners push in through the Smile Deli. Since enemies are bound to get clustered, a character such as Phoenix can disrupt their positioning through her AoE abilities. The goal is to push through towards the school’s entrance and follow the same multi-directional offense to capture the convoy.

For the defending team, the limited attacking approaches work in their favour. Sprinkle Peni Parker’s traps across both entrances to damage the enemy’s momentum. As the attackers approach the school, Groot’s walls can quickly deny them access and compress their formation. This creates a window for an aerial hero like Iron Man to rain down fire from above.

Charging Jeff Statue

After the convoy is secured, the first bend it’ll need to drive past is near the golden “Charging Jeff” statue in the Lower Manhattan map in Marvel Rivals. This spot is basically a straight road, cornered by flanking spots on either side. Expect close-quarters combat once again, where lockdown specialists such as Blade and Black Panther can shine. Heroes with vertical mobility can also use the elevated balconies as a vantage point to pile on poke damage.

With all that being said, the flanking routes do add a strategic layer to the action. If your team’s position isn’t nailed down, the enemy can just waltz through Van Dyne’s store and take a stab at your backline. This would obviously be devastating, so make sure you’re sticking to your spot in the formation.

The Vault Bridge

The third chokepoint on the Lower Manhattan map in Marvel Rivals is worth keeping in mind, as it is essentially where you’ll make a final stand. The narrow bridge connecting the guardposts and the Vault’s exterior is a meat grinder in every sense of the word. Both teams are forced to battle head-on in a space that’s relatively cramped. The attacking side has to contend with a lack of horizontal space, while the defending team will need to keep aerial flankers at bay.

A strong Vanguard like Magneto, paired with a Duelist that offers constant suppression, like Star-Lord, is the best defensive strategy. For the offensive team, two aerial heroes who can flank through the windows on either side and attract enemy attention are ideal. This way, the pressure on the rest of the team is relieved as they make that decisive push.

Destructible Areas

The Marvel Rivals Lower Manhattan map isn’t big on destructive areas – at least none that are game-changing in any way. You’ll mainly find that the elevated balconies are prone to destruction and can force you to reposition. Additionally, some walls around the courtyard can be destroyed to open new sightlines. However, the flow on this map is so frenetic that you’re unlikely to find much utility in these destructible elements.

How to Win in Marvel Rivals Lower Manhattan Map

Besides using the best Marvel Rivals characters, here are some essential tips to help you win games on the Lower Manhattan map:

• Poke, Poke, Poke: Lower Manhattan really is a poker paradise. It’s packed with narrow passageways that offer enough room for a quick retreat. These conditions are ideal for DPS characters such as Star-Lord, The Punisher, and Elsa Bloodstone. Their arsenal can constantly suppress enemies, and when required, they can move to higher balconies and pepper rivals from above.
• Use Multi-Directional Pushes: Whether you’re at the courtyard or the final bridge, there’s enough room to attack from multiple directions. In a map as compressed as this, having multiple fronts of attack is extremely important. If your push flies through the passage, your entire team is likely to get CCed into oblivion.
• Prioritize Mobile and Self-Peel Healers: Utilize self-peel and high-mobility heroes, such as Luna Snow or White Fox, to survive the tight, intense, close-quarters skirmishes that occur at all three major chokepoints.
• Beware the UAV: The “Scanning” mechanic is far from a gimmick on the Lower Manhattan map in Marvel Rivals. In fact, it levels the playing field as far as the balance of the Ultimates is concerned. You’ll need to be extra careful on when to trigger your Ult because there’s a high chance that the enemy is already preparing for it. Also, the location detection makes the map a nightmare for dive heroes, so be sure to keep that in mind.
• Rain Fire from Above: Since the action will often be concentrated in narrow spaces, flight-based heroes can easily create separation and pepper enemies from above. We highly recommend switching to the likes of Iron Man or Phoenix during the early fights in the courtyard, or once the convoy reaches the Charging Jeff statue.

Best Hero Lineup for Marvel Rivals Lower Manhattan Map

To dominate the narrow avenues and vertical passageways of the Lower Manhattan map in Marvel Rivals, here’s the best team comp to use:

• Groot (Vanguard): The lovable trunk can use his Ironwood Walls to physically block off the Smile Deli flank or trap enemies in the narrow Courtyard lanes, making them easy targets for AoE damage.
• Magneto (Vanguard):  His Metallic Curtain is great for pushing the convoy through the meat grinder at the Vault Bridge. On defense, his Ultimate can punish attackers who cluster around the major chokepoints.
• Iron Man (Duelist): Tony Stark can offer a flanking option at all times, while also having the necessary firepower to pick off enemies from above.
• The Punisher (Duelist): Castle’s kit is built for holding long sightlines, which Lower Manhattan has plenty of. When paired with Rocket Raccoon, he also gains the Ammo Overload Team-Up, giving him infinite ammo to suppress the enemy team indefinitely.
• Luna Snow (Strategist): Her Fate of Both Worlds Ultimate provides the invulnerability needed to survive the high-density combat. And her freeze effects can also shut down enemy flankers.
• Rocket Raccoon (Strategist): Besides offering plenty of healing, his B.R.B. beacon is vital for quick revives during intense battles.
