We will get to witness what happens next as the boys move out of their parents’ house while Malcolm plays a central character to show us how adult life is treating our beloved characters.

What Does The Original Cast Feel About Returning for Malcom in The Middle?

Talking to IndieWire, Brian Cranston revealed that it was amazing to see the family back together, especially the kids, who have grown up a lot since they last were on screen together. In his comment, he said-

Seeing the family was the best part. It’s been 20 years since we said goodbye, and now we’re seeing the family again and each person. All the boys were around the same age, now, that I was when I started 25 years ago. They’ve got kids of their own. It’s just great to see.

Other than that, PEOPLE interviewed Frankie Muniz, who revealed that initially, he was a bit nervous to get back to Malcolm in the Middle and was worried if the cast would be able to work together effortlessly again. He said-

As an adult, you tend to overthink things … and you put more pressure on yourself as well. So I didn’t know what it was gonna be like if it was going to be easy to be Malcolm, if it was gonna be awkward back with the cast. And not to sound like cliché, but it was as if not a single day went by. All of us every single person like instantly fell back into their characters with, I’m talking the first table read.

So, it’s obvious that the original cast of Malcolm in the Middle is pretty excited to be back on the screen.

However, there is one actor, Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey in the show, who is not returning to the revival, and Caleb Ellsworth-Clark will appear as a recast Dewey, and Anthony Timpano as Jamie. However, talking to The New York Post, Frank Miunitz expressed how Erik’s absence did not come as a surprise to him. He revealed that Erik is very happy with the life he has created for himself, and everyone in the cast respects his decision not to go back in front of the camera. In his comment, he said-

“He’s very happy in the life that he’s created outside of the entertainment world, And he made the decision that he didn’t want to get back into it which we completely respect. We had his blessing from day one to have the role be in the show and recast it, So I hope people aren’t too upset that he didn’t come back, but it was by his choice.”

After the conclusion of the original show, Erik Per Sullivan retired from acting and instead went ahead to live a private life and pursue his education. Currently, he is in his 30’s, focusing on his studies and is a scholar of Victorian literature.

Reports also suggest that he is all set to pursue his master’s at Harvard soon. With this information in place, it makes sense why he is not interested in appearing in the upcoming revival.

Bryan Cranston Pushed for 12 Years to Get Malcom in the Middle Revival Going

According to the actor, he poked the creator of Malcolm in the Middle, Linwood Boomer, to the extent that he finally came up with ideas for the revival. In his statement, Cranston said-

“I’ve been trying to get this going for 12 years. I was the one poking the bear, going, ‘Let’s do it, let’s do it, let’s do it, Finally, Linwood Boomer, our creator of the show, got tired of me poking him. He came up with some really fun, terrific ideas. You are reintroduced to this family. We left the airwaves 20 years ago. All the boys are adults with their own children, It’s a different dynamic in that sense, and yet, do things really change with Hal and Lois? I don’t know that they do!”
