How to Get Lunala in Pokemon GO

There are four different ways to get a Lunala in Pokemon GO. Here’s a list of them:
- Raids: The most efficient and fastest way to get Lunala in Pokemon GO is by participating in 5-star raids. Lunala will be available in the 5-star raids on February 21, February 22, March 2, and March 3, 2026. Raid Hour on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, will feature increased Lunala raids from 6 PM to 7 PM local time. Save your Raid Passes or buy from the in-game shop using PokeCoins. Remember to stock up on Potions, Revives, and Berries too.
- Event-themed Special Research Tasks: Other than defeating Pokemon GO Raid Boss, you can sometimes encounter Lunala by completing event-themed Special Research Tasks. Currently, there are no event Special Researches that reward a Lunala encounter. The Special Research for “The Dusk Settles” event in 2024 rewarded players with a Lunala encounter when completed, but it has already expired. You need to actively play the game to not miss out on these events, or you can bookmark our article, as we will update it frequently.
- Evolve Cosmeom: Other than raids, you can evolve your Cosmog into Cosmeom using 25 Cosmog candies. Cosmeom can be further evolved into Lunala during the night using 100 Cosmog candies. The only way to get Cosmog is via the ‘Cosmic Companion’ Special Research.
- GO Battle League encounter: The last method to get a Lunala is by participating in Pokemon GO Battle League ranked matches. Once you reach rank 20 in GBL, there is a slight chance to encounter a Legendary Pokemon featured in raids, with the pool of other available Pokemon. This isn’t an easy feat, and the chance of encountering one is very random.
Fusing Lunala with Necrozma in Pokemon GO
You can fuse your Lunala with a Necrozma in Pokemon GO using Lunar Fusion Energy to get a Dawn Wing Necrozma.
Lunar Fusion Energy can be obtained by defeating Dawn Wing Necrozma in raids. Each raid battle yields a minimum of 80 Fusion Energy, and sometimes more, depending on the raid speed and bonus challenge. To farm 1000 Lunar Fusion Energy, you need to complete at least 10 Dawn Wing Necrozma raids.
Along with 1000 Lunar Fusion Energy, you need to make sure that you have 30 Cosmog Candy, 30 Necrozma Candy, a Lunala, and a Necrozma. With all these resources ready, you can fuse your Lunala with Necrozma by clicking on the Fuse option of your choice of Necrozma.

Fusing a Necrozma with a Lunala will give you the legacy move Moongeist Beam on your Dawn Wing Necrozma. You can activate the Adventure effect of this move for 10 minutes using 3,000 Stardust and 3 Necrozma Candy. The Adventure effect attracts Pokemon that appear during the night, similar to Incense. Additionally, Pokemon that can only evolve during the night will be able to evolve at any time while this Adventure Effect is active.
Note:
The stats of your Dawn Wing Necrozma depends on the Necrozma, and not the Lunala. Fusing your best Necrozma with the weakest Lunala is recommended. That way you can still use your stronger Lunala in battles, without making them unavailable.
Can Shiny Lunala Be Found in Pokemon GO?
No, as of now, shiny Lunala has not been released in Pokemon GO. However, we expect that once it’s released in the game, like other Legendaries, Lunala will have a base shiny rate of 1 in 20. The shiny rate will be significantly lower compared to any wild Pokemon spawn and spotlight hour spawns.
Where is Lunala Ranked in Pokemon GO Meta?
Lunala is a very powerful Psychic and Ghost attacker in the current Pokemon GO Meta. Here’s a complete analysis of Lunala’s rankings:
- Raid Attacker: Lunala is one of the best Raid Attackers, and its fused version, Dawn Wing Necrozma, is even better, boasting high defense, attack, and stamina. With a very consistent TDO, it can deal a lot of damage in raids, without fainting early on. They also compete with some top Mega Evolutions, Shadow Pokemon, and legendaries in the game.
- Gym Defender: As a Legendary Pokemon, Lunala cannot defend Gyms.
- Ghost Type Attacker: Lunala ranks in the top 7 Ghost-type attackers with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball. Dawn Wing Necrozma, however, ranks as the best ghost attacker in the game.
- Psychic Type Attacker: Lunala is ranked in the top 15 amongst the best Psychic-type attackers with Confusion and Psychic.
- Ultra League: Lunala belongs in the top 451, and isn’t a worthy Pokemon for this league. Ultra League requires at least 2500 CP, and Lunala, being a legendary Pokemon, its stats will get lower with its level and CP, making it a very bad choice.
- Master League: On the other hand, Lunala is one of the best choices for Master League with a top 10 rank. This can be a great option to counter some of the top meta Pokemon in the league.
That said, Lunala is one of the best Pokemon to have in Pokemon GO as it does very well in raids, and PvP battles by itself. When fused with Necrozma, Dawn Wing Necrozma is one of the best Pokemon in the game. That’s why we recommend that you get at least a few Lunala before the raid duration ends.
There is no Shiny Lunala in Pokemon GO.
Lunala cannot Dynamax in Pokemon GO.
Any Psychic or Ghost-type Mega Evolved Pokemon can boost Lunala in Pokemon GO.
