You Can Now Install Any Extension on Edge Canary for Android; Here’s How

We reported earlier that Microsoft is working to bring extension support to Edge on Android. However, it only allowed you to install a few pre-selected extensions including Dark Reader, uBlock Origin, and Global Speed. Now, a Reddit user has found a nifty way to install any browser extension on Edge Canary for Android.

Extension support on Android has not been made available to the stable version of Edge yet. Microsoft seems to be testing the feature on the Canary build before widely rolling out the feature to all users. Nevertheless, you can check out how to overcome the restriction and install any extension on Edge for Android.

Installing Multiple Extensions on Edge for Android

Before you begin, make sure you have installed the latest version (125.0.2.2487.0 or later) of Edge Canary (Free) from the Play Store. After that, go through our below guide and enable extensions on Edge for Android.

Next, open Edge’s Settings page and move to “About Microsoft Edge” at the bottom. Here, keep tapping on the “Edge Canary XXXX” build number multiple times. It will unlock Developer options inside Edge. Go back and open it.

Here, tap on the “Extension install by id” option. Now, to find the ID of an extension, head to Microsoft Edge’s extension page (visit) and search for the extension you want to install on your Android phone. Open the extension and copy the long string at the end of the URL.

For example — the extension ID for Gloom Dark Mode is “iihanogagknkjpffdmpabnihohdghekn.” Copy and paste this extension ID into Microsoft Edge for Canary and you are good to go. After a while, the extension will be installed on your browser. You can confirm it on the Extensions page.

Initial Impressions: Limitless Extensions on Edge for Android

Since the feature is for testing purposes as of now, of course, you have to jump through hoops to install an extension. However, if you are someone who needs the necessary extensions for your workflow on Android, it can be of immense help.

I installed three different extensions which are not listed on Edge, however, the browser became quite unstable. It crashed multiple times, even while opening a simple webpage. The feature is in Beta and part of the Canary build so crashes and bugs are expected.
