Have you ever wanted to turn your old Android phone or tablet into a Chromecast device? If your answer is a resounding yes, this guide can help you set up a Chromecast-compliant music system by connecting your Android phone using the 3.5mm headphone jack. And best of all, you can control the music from any Android device on the same wireless network. Thanks to Android expert Mishaal Rahman (courtesy of his tweet) for discovering the trick and sharing the simple app that lets you turn any Android device into a Chromecast device. Here is how you can do it.
- First, go ahead and install the CastReceiver app (Free, offers in-app purchases) on the Android phone or tablet you want to turn into a Chromecast receiver.
- Next, open the app and allow the necessary permissions, including the ability to display over other apps.
- Now, move to your primary device and open an app that supports casting like YouTube, Google Photos, or YouTube Music.
- After that, tap on the “cast” button, and you will find the casting device you just installed the app on. Simply select it.
- And there you go! It will start casting the media on another Android device.
- I even used Google Photos, and it successfully mirrored the photo on another device seamlessly.
- You can even play music on another device using YouTube Music.
- Keep this in mind that the app doesn’t support the casting of DRM-protected content from apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Hotstar, etc.
