- Due to regional misconfiguration on Windows 11, users end up with an illogical date format.
- Users can change the date format under 'Regional format' in the Settings app on Windows 11.
- There is also an advanced way to change the date format, and it's through the Control Panel.
During the Windows 11 onboarding process, an incorrect regional configuration can result in a date format that doesn’t make sense to the user. For example, in the U.S., the month is written before the day, and that can confuse users from other regions. Therefore, if you want to change the date format on Windows 11, follow our step-by-step guide below.
Method 1: Change the Date Format from Windows 11 Settings
- Open the Start menu and search for “regional format.”
- Click to open “Set regional format” from the search results.
- Here, change the “regional format” to your region from the drop-down menu.
- This will change the date format in line with your country’s convention.
If you want to further customize the date format, expand “Regional format” and click on “Change formats.” On the next page, open the “Short date” drop-down and select the date format you want. You can also change the time format by changing “Short time” from the drop-down menu.
Method 2: Change Windows 11 Date Format from Control Panel
Before the settings app became the standard for changing most settings and features on Windows 11, the Control Panel was the primary interface for it. Here’s how to do it:
- Use the Windows 11 keyboard shortcut “Windows + R” to open the Run dialog box.
- Here, type
timedate.cpl
and hit Enter. This will directly open the Time and Date settings in the Control Panel.
- Next, click on “Change date and time” and then open “Change calendar settings”.
- Once you are here, you can change the date format on Windows 11.
- For example, from the drop-down menu, I selected the US-style date format and clicked on “Apply” to change the date format accordingly.
- Next, you can open the “Short date” drop-down menu and customize the format as you wish.
- Once you are done, click on “Apply” and that’s it.
so that’s how you can easily change the date format on Windows 11. By the way, Microsoft recently added the option to show seconds in the Windows 11 Taskbar clock. In case you want that, you can follow our guide to turn it on. However, bear in mind it will consume some of your CPU resources. Moreover, if you have any questions, let us know in the comments below.
