Alyn is the bastard son of Lord Corlys whom he birthed with Marilda Hull during his time at the sea.

Alyn (played by Abubakar Salim) made his debut in the first episode of season 2 of HOTD. From his introduction, we just knew that he was a sailor in the grand feet of the Velaryon. His hometown is Hull, a harbor town on the Driftmark’s coastline. He also has a brother named Addam, whom we met in the later episodes.

From the conversation between Alyn and his Lord Corlys, it was understood that he participated in the ‘War for the Stepstones’. During the aforementioned war, Alyn plunged into the sea and saved his Lord. This resulted in Lord Corlys forever being indebted to Alyn. However, the connection between these two people extends beyond just the sailor and his lord, as hinted in episode 4. Now, tread carefully to the section below to learn about Alyn’s origin as it involves heavy spoilers for the show.

Princess Rhaenys remarked that she knew who Alyn was and that he must be raised and honored by Lord Corlys, which is a crucial moment. Because Alyn’s origins are left in an ambiguous note in the books by GRRM. In line with Archmaester Gyldayn’s words, Alyn and his brother are the children of Ser Laenor Velaryon (son of Lord Corlys) and Marilda of Hull. However, many disregard this fact as we know for sure that Laenor’s sexual orientation is towards men as seen earlier in House of the Dragon.

This is when the claims by the court fool Mushroom seem plausible in the books. According to him, Lord Corlys is the father of Alyn of Hull and was kept out of the public eye mainly to avoid upsetting Corly’s wife, Rhaenys. Now, that Rhaenys mentioned that she knew about Alyn, it makes perfect sense that Mushroom’s claims could be true. This makes Alyn the child born out of wedlock between Lord Corlys and Marilda Hull.

Alyn Velaryon will play an important role from now on in the series. We also hope that the HOTD show will finally confirm the mysterious origins of the brave man Alyn. That said, let us know your thoughts about Alyn’s origins in the comments below.
