The Google Home and Home Mini smart speakers are finally heading to the Indian market, according to a recent report from Gadgets 360. The report cites communication shared by Redington India with its retail partners which reveals that Google has scheduled the launch of the smart speakers for April 2018.

In contrast, rival Amazon’s range of Alexa-powered smart speakers were launched in the Indian market back in October. At the time of launch, the Amazon Echo, Echo Dot and Echo Plus, were only available via an invite system and the company removed the invite system just last month.

It’s worth noting that Google is only launching the Google Home and Google Home Mini in the country, with no information regarding the launch of its premium Google Home Max speaker. The Google Home, which was first launched back in 2016, directly competes with the Amazon Echo and includes a high excursion speaker with a 2-inch driver along with dual 2-inch passive radiators. It also makes use of Google’s far-field voice recognition technology for better voice activation in loud environments.

The Google Home Mini, which was launched last year, is more like Amazon’s Echo Dot, and includes a single 40mm driver which boasts of 360-degree sound. The Google Home Mini also features the far-field voice recognition technology for efficient hands-free use. As of now, there’s no further information regarding the pricing and availability of the Google Home and Home Mini.
