Many people seemed to wonder when this incident happened in the first place. We got ourselves an answer as the event was confirmed to take place 38 years before the current timeline, as revealed in chapter 1095.

The former fleet admiral, Sengoku, was the first person to talk about this incident back in chapter 957 (or episode 958). He gave the general context of what happened there that cemented its place as one of the shocking events in history. So, Sengoku explained the flashback of how a legendary battle took place between the Rocks Pirates and the Marines.

What’s more interesting is that the Roger Pirates allied with Monkey D. Garp and the rest of the Marines to knock down Rocks D. Xebec and his crew. The allied forces containing Roger, Garp, and others emerged as the winners of the battle. They saved the Celestial Dragons along with the slaves and citizens of the island there.

To this date, there is no explanation for why Roger would team up with Garp and the rest of the Marines and that too to defend the World Nobles. Maybe for the greater good? But we got more information about what happened on God Valley Island, and here is what you need to know:

The Celestial Dragons had a tradition of conducting the “Native Hunting Competition” every 3 years on islands spread over the seas of this realm. It’s a hunger game-esque competition where the World Nobles hunt down the residents of the island as well as the slaves they let out there.

Each kill adds up to certain points and the one with the highest kills was announced as the winner. The winner was to be awarded with some of the powerful devil fruits as prizes. As a result, Celestial Dragons, one of the five Elders, St. Jaygarcia Saturn, Figarland Garling (possibly other members of Holy Knights), and the Marines in One Piece were present there. They also telecasted the event live to the World Nobles at Mary Geoise.

Rocks D. Xebec, the strongest enemy of Roger, aimed to become the ruler of this world. Ginny, one of the slaves on this island, successfully leaked the news about the competition to the outside world hoping something could help them.

As a result, this news grabbed the attention of pirates like Rocks Pirates, Roger Pirates, and several others. So when a one-in-a-million chance like this showed up, Xebec along with his crew decided to raid this island to gain back the treasure (something that the World Government stole from them at Hachinosu) and make a statement against the World Government.

God Valley Island is where Monkey D. Garp and Gol D. Roger’s paths cross, and they decide to team up temporarily for the greater good. Upon partnering, this allied team obliterated the Rocks Pirates, and it led to the crew’s disbandment. The day was saved by this alliance, and this event went on to redefine the history of One Piece.

While this major battle broke out, the slaves, including Kuma, Ginny, and Ivankov, tried to escape by grabbing one of the most overpowered devil fruits. When Ivankov tried to eat the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu, Big Mom intercepted the action and stole the fruit. Meanwhile, Kuma ate the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, and that greatly helped them and the other slaves (around 500) escape the battle-torn island.

The Outcome of the God Valley Incident

Following the defeat of Rocks Pirates, its captain Rocks D. Xebec passed away shortly after the incident. This led to the Rocks crew’s disbandment, which led to the birth of some of the greatest pirate crews like Beast Pirates, Big Mom Pirates, Whitebeard Pirates, etc. During the incident, Big Mom found the Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (one of the strongest zoan devil fruits) and gave it to her friend Kaido, who was defeated by Luffy using Gear 5 in the Wano Country arc.

The most important highlight of the event is that Garp earned the moniker “Hero of the Marines” for his valiant show of power at God Valley island. But Roger’s assistance was completely erased from the annals of history by the World Government.

The existence of God Valley Island likewise abruptly disappeared like it never existed. It appears that it ceases to appear on maps of the globe. That is why only veteran marines and a handful of individuals know about this incident.

Last but not least, after this event, Roger found Shanks in a treasure box and adopted him. You can learn more about our Red Haired pirate in our unknown facts about Shanks article. Moreover, it is also the place where Kuma met Ivankov and Ginny. Kuma ate the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi, which made their escape story a success and led them to a new life which further shaped the entire story of One Piece.

St. Figarland Garling was awarded the title of “Champion of God Valley.” This title was likely given based on his performance in the aforementioned competition, but we don’t know that for sure.

That’s everything we know about the events that happened at God Valley. So, manga chapter 1095 sheds some light on the biggest mystery after years, and we are mind-blown to see it get uncovered.
