Genshin Impact Natlan Leak Hints a Tragic Past for Muratans

In Short
  • A recent leak via GenshinLeakFlow has revealed three new Murals from Natlan that provide potential story spoilers.
  • The murals possibly depicts the Pyro Dragon Sovereign, Xbalanque, and the envoys of Celestia.
  • There are many different theories about the Murals, one of them being a possible coalition between Celestia and Xbalanque against the Pyro Dragon Sovereign.

The Pyro Nation of Natlan has always been shrouded in mystery, being completely disconnected from the rest of the regions. We haven’t even seen any prominent NPC yet from the Natlan region, which says a lot about the Pyro Nation. The best source of information about Natlan comes from a brief discussion between Venti and Vennessa in the comic — Songs of the Wind, taking place 1000 years ago from the current timeline. Now, with the release of Genshin Impact version 5.0 drawing near, many new leaks about the Natlan are coming out, with one recent leak hinting at a tragic past for the Muratans, natives of Natlan.

Genshin Impact Natlan’s Tragic Story

Recently, leaks posted on Reddit via GenshinLeakflow revealed three murals from Natlan. Art pieces and Murals in Genshin Impact are often used to tell a story, generally the old lore of a region or event. The leaked Natlan murals also include some very surprising details that may point toward a tragic past for the natives of Natlan. Here is a detailed explanation of what the leaked Natlan murals show and what they likely mean lore-wise:

  • Mural 1: Two beings, one dressed in dark with a humanoid face and the other dressed in white with a reptilian face, standing with their backs together, probably showing two sides of something, like good and evil.
  • Mural 2: The dark-dressed human from the first mural is standing on top of a Black Dragon while flame engulfs everything at the back.
  • Mural 3: The Black Dragon spewing flames at a tree protected by a divine being. The dome is also shown to protect normal humans, while those outside are getting burned.

Although it’s not possible to tell exactly what the murals depict in the story at the moment, I do have a theory. So, let’s breakdown the murals the best we can:

  • First, the Black Dragon has to be the Pyro Dragon Sovereign as that is the only possibility that makes sense at the moment. It appears that he is attacking the Muratans.
  • While being attacked by the Pyro Sovereign, the Muratans take refuge under a divine being, which can only point towards Celestia. The envoys from Celestia protect the Muratans from the Natlan Sovereign.
  • The dark-dressed or skinned human is expected to be Xbalanque, who rises from within the Muratans and with the help of Celestia, defeats the Pyro Dragon Sovereign, which is what’s likely shown in the second mural.
  • Finally, Xbalanque and Celestia come together to create an order over the Muratans or people of Natlan, while Xbalanque becomes the first Pyro Archon.

This is what my theory is about the leaked murals, however, the Reddit thread is buzzing with all kinds of theories, and I think some of them do have a possibility of being correct.

One of the proposed theories in the threads was that Xbalanque allied with the Dragon Sovereign of Natlan to attack the Muratans. To protect themselves, the Muratans seek help from the Celestia and that starts the Natlan war between the Pyro Dragon Sovereign and the Pyro Archon. This theory also seems to have a lot of weight in my opinion.

That’s about everything we could find about these leaked Natlan Murals. One thing is confirmed is that the Muratans or the people of Natlan once faced grave danger from the Pyro Sovereign. Share your theories about the murals in the comment section, and let’s try to put our heads together to figure it out.
