Mualani Kit and Best Rotation

Mualani has an on-field DPS-focused kit with a major focus on her Normal Attacks. After Mualani uses her Skill, she enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, allowing her to surf freely on Sharky without taking damage, increasing her Movement speed, and preventing her from taking damage from Phlogiston.

During this state, her Normal attacks change to Sharky’s Bites, dealing Hydro damage. When she makes contact with the enemy, she gains Wave stacks, which increases the damage of her Sharky’s Bites with each stack. At three stacks, her Normal attack changes to Sharky’s Surging Bite for one instance of damage, removing all the stacks from her. When Sharky’s Bite hits opponents Marked as Prey, that mark is removed, and she fires Sharky’s Missiles at up to 5 nearby opponents Marked as Prey, dealing damage to them equal to this Sharky’s Bite instance and clearing their Marks.

  • Mualani’s Normal Attacks become Sharky Bites in Nightsoul’s Blessing State.
  • Her Skill allows her to enter Nightsoul’s Blessing state, giving her 60 Nightsoul points.
  • Mualani’s movement speed increases in the Nightsoul’s Blessing state, and she can travel over water, land and Phlogiston without taking any environmental damage.
  • She shoots Sharky’s Missiles at 5 nearby opponents Marked as Prey, when Sharky’s Bite hits the marked opponents.
  • Mualani’s damage from Sharky’s Bite and Sharky’s Missiles decreases if she targets more than 1 enemy these attacks, with 28% being the maximum decrease when at least 3 opponents are targeted.

Mualani Best Artifacts

  • Obsidian Codex (4-Piece)
  • Heart of Depth (4-piece)

Mualani completely scales on her Max HP and does Hydro Damage, with the majority of the damage output coming from her Normal attacks. This makes the 4-piece Heart of Depth Artifact set is best for Mualani, as it increases Hydro Damage Bonus by 15% and increases Normal and Charged Attack damage by 30% for 15 seconds after using the Elemental Skill, making it perfect for her kit.

Other than that, the upcoming 4-peice Obsidian Codex artifact set is also going to be a great option for Mualani. This artifact set will release in the Natlan 5.0 update and it increases the damage dealt and Crit Rate of characters with Nightsoul’s Blessing.

Best Mualani Build: Main and Sub-Stats Priority

Regarding Mualani’s main stat priority, use HP % Sands, Hydro Damage % Goblet, and Crit Circlet. For Sub-stats, focus on adding Crit Damage and Crit Rate, followed by EM, HP %, and Energy Regen.

Elemental Mastery is only needed if you are playing Mualani in the Vaporize team, which is also the best team comp for her kit.

  • Cooling Treatment (Normal Attack): Performs a 3-attack combo that deals Hydro damage.
  • Surfshark Wavebreaker (Elemental Skill): After Mualani uses her Skill, she gains 60 Nightsoul points and enters the Nightsoul’s Blessing State.
Nightsoul’s Blessing: While in this state, Mualani mounts her Sharky Surfboard, increasing her movement Speed. Also, Mualani can travel on water and in liquid Phlogiston while in this state, without taking any damage. Furthermore, in this state, all her Normal Attacks become Shark Bites, dealing Hydro Damage based on a percentage of her Max HP with the Nightsoul Attribute. Sharky’s Bites can take place in mid-air and damage dealt this way is considered Normal Attack damage. Additionally, when she makes contact with opponents in this state, Mualani applies “Marked as Prey” to them and gains 1 Wave Momentum stack (max 3 stacks), 1 stack can be gained every 0.8 seconds per opponent. Also, she continuously consumes Nightsoul points in this state and exits the state after all the points are consumed.
Wave Momentum and Marked as Prey: Mualani’s damage dealt increases when she uses Sharky’s Bite, based on Wave Momentum stacks. When she has 3 stacks, a Normal Attack will use Sharky’s Surging Bite instead, further increasing the damage dealt and canceling all stacks thereafter. When Shark Bite hits opponents Marked as Prey, that mark is removed, and she will fire Shark Missiles at up to 5 nearby opponents Marked as Prey, dealing damage to them equal to this Sharky’s Bite instance and clearing their Marks. If Mualani targets more than 1 enemy with Sharky’s Bite and Shark Missiles, the damage dealt will decrease, with 28% being the maximum decrease when at least 3 opponents are targeted.

  • Night Realm’s Gift: Crests and Troughs: Maulani is able to switch to consuming Phlogiston when her Nightsoul points deplete, to maintain her Nightsoul’s Blessing. When around Phlogiston devices in Natlan, she can use Nightsoul Transmission: Mualani. When the active character is currently swimming, sprinting, in a movement mode caused by certain Talents, or at a certain height in the air, switching to Mualani with let her enter the Nightsoul’s Blessing state and gain 40 Nightsoul points. This effect can be triggered every 10 seconds.
  • Heat-Resistant Freshwater Floater: Sharky’s Surging Bites generates a Floater nearby when it hits an opponent. Mualani restores 22 Nightsoul points when she picks up a Floater she has created. Only 1 such Floater can be created in this way during a single use of Nightsoul’s Blessing.

Best Weapons for Mualani

  • Surfing Time
  • Tome of the Eternal Flow
  • Sacrificial Jade
  • The Widsith
  • Ring of Yaxche (Craftable Natlan Weapon)
  • Prototype Amber

Surf’s Up is the Signature Weapon for Mualani, and it is also going to be her best weapon. This weapon gives a Critical Damage Bonus Effect and Attack Base stat. The weapon skill increases the wielder’s max HP by 20%. Furthermore, the weapon increases the Normal Attack damage of the wielder and benefits from triggering the Vaporize reaction.

The Tome of the Eternal Flow, Neuvillette’s signature weapon, is the next best option for Mualani’s best build. She has a very similar kit to Neuvillette’s, which makes his weapon a perfect choice for her. Other than that, you can also use the Sacrificial Jade, The Widsith, or the F2P weapon Prototype Amber. Natlan leaks also reveal that more F2P craftable weapons are coming in 5.0, so you can also use the Ring of Yaxche, which is the craftable Catalyst in Natlan.

Mualani Constellations

  • The Leisurely “Mezti”… (C1): The Nightsoul’s Blessing and Phlogiston consumption is decreased by 70% while not in combat. Furthermore, the first Sharky’s Surging Bite she performs after entering Nightsoul’s Blessing and the Shark Missiles, triggers deals 75% of her Max HP as increased damage. This damage is subject to the damage decrease rules imposed by Surfshark Wavebreaker.
  • Mualani, Going All Out! (C2): She gains 2 of Surfshark Wavebreaker’s Wave Momentum stacks after entering Nightsoul’s Blessing, gaining 1 stack after obtaining a Floater. Additionally, aside from pre-existing Nightsoul point regeneration, she will also restore 20 Nightsoul points in the 4 seconds after she obtains a Floater.
  • Surfing Atop Joyous Seas (C3): Elemental Skill level + 3 up to level 15 max.
  • Sharky Eats Floaters (C4): After obtaining a Floater, she regenerates 7 Energy. Additionally, her Elemental Burst deals 200% increased damage.
  • Same Style of Surfboard on Sale! (C5): Elemental Burst level + 3 up to level 15 max.
  • Spirit of the Springs’ People (C6): The damage increase effect of C1 can trigger more than once per Nightsoul’s Blessing. Furthermore, the Crit Rate and Crit Damage of the Sharky’s Surging Bite and the Shark Missiles triggered by it are increased by 5% and 10% respectively.

Mualani’s constellations are very strong and her C1 and C2 increase her damage output by quite a lot, while also making her easier to play. Genshin Impact has had this trend for some time now to add important kit features in the C1 and C2 of the character, which I have particularly disliked. Sadly, you will have to invest in her Constellations to get the best out of Mualani’s kit in Genshin Impact.
