Everything New Coming to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series is returning to its roots in Modern Warfare 4. Infinity Ward is making big changes to the game and promising a grounded experience with fluid movements and precise gunplay. So, if you are curious about everything new in the next major COD game, here are all the new features coming to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4.

Movement Upgrades

Say goodbye to the Omni-Movement introduced in the Black Ops series, as Infinity Ward has completely revamped the movement system for COD MW4. All the new features of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4’s movement system are as follows:

Mantling

With the addition of mantling, players can now freely climb buildings and even pipes by grabbing onto the surfaces. Furthermore, you can drop down ledges to hang and shimmy across the edges. Now players can traverse vertical spaces without feeling like anything is holding them back. This may seem like an unnecessary addition, but trust me, it offers players complete freedom in terms of movement.

New Backward Slide

A new backward slide is being introduced to the game and comes in handy when you are repositioning amidst battle. You can also perform the slide cancel as usual, in addition to the new mantle cancel option

Infinity Ward is doubling down on realism in combat while offering fluid movement. There are no restrictions on how you move inside each game from now on. Thus, the overall movement feels incredible and fluid with improvements to sprinting, climbing, mantling, and sliding.

Refined Gunplay

In line with the movement system, the gunplay has also undergone evolutionary changes in Modern Warfare 4. So, let’s go over the changes and new features in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4’s gunplay one by one below:

Zero Bloom

Bloom is now completely removed from Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. Basically, all your bullets end up accurately where you are pointing your gun. With Bloom out of the picture, hip-fire accuracy has reached a whole new level. Therefore, we didn’t know we could say this before, but hip-fire is now more reliable than ever before.

Recoil Adjustments

Although bloom is gone, you still have to control your weapon’s recoil. To accurately reflect the player’s input on screen, recoil, convergence, and weapon handling have been fine-tuned. So, now you have better control over your weapon, and cannot blame the game anymore.

Weapon Behavior

Now, your weapon’s behavior also changes based on your character’s movements, stances, and the environment you are in. These changes were made to offer a much more realistic experience. For example, if you are navigating through tight spaces, the weapon’s position in your hands is slightly changed without bringing down the pace of your movement. So, you can say that weapons will be adjusted naturally, like in a combat scenario in real life.

Visual Improvements

To improve visibility on the battlefield, the Depth of Field, along with the other visual effects you see in battle, has been significantly revamped. Now, you can see your enemies more clearly without any visual clutter, and the team has achieved this without sacrificing the authenticity of the heated battles.

Theater Mode

Infinity Ward is bringing back the classic ‘Theater Mode’ in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. Theater Mode is finally returning to a Modern Warfare game after 15 years since the classic MW3. In case you forgot, in Theater Mode, players can watch recordings of the matches they played from whatever angle they wish using the flycam or toggle between first-person and third-person.

You can take both screenshots and save the gameplay in the theater. This is useful for both content creators who record clips and players who want to improve their game by learning from opponents and friends.

Redesigned Gunsmith and Class Creation System

Devs have completely redesigned the Create-a-Class system from scratch in Modern Warfare 4 so that players can freely create multiple builds based on their preferred playstyle. Now, operators, weapons, equipment, and killstreaks are merged into a single loadout, and the UI looks neater than ever.

New Apex Attachments

Infinity Ward is adding a special type of attachment in Modern Warfare 4 that will vastly alter the way a gun behaves in the game. Apex Attachments are basically endgame weapon modifications that change your gun’s behavior. Each Apex Attachment comes with a unique trait. For example, you can enable rapid-fire on your regular revolver or transform a pistol into a shotgun. In this way, you can modify the weapon’s firing mode, handling, tactical utility, etc in MW4.

“We give you a new way to play with a weapon that you already know and love. And the idea is not to make it more OP, necessarily, but to have a new toy to play with,” devs said. Gunny Weapon Build Recommender

Gunsmith is back in MW4, allowing players to customize their loadouts even more deeply. If you feel stuck when creating new weapon builds, that’s when the new Gunny weapon build recommender comes in handy. This new feature helps players create builds tailored to their playstyle and unlock the special attachments we talked about earlier.

You can also let the tool generate a build from scratch based on the weapons and attachments you have unlocked. Therefore, whether you want a loadout to engage in close or long-range fights, Gunny Tool has got your back. In addition, you can also share these builds like in COD Black Ops 7.

New Dynamic Kill Block Map

In addition to the classic maps returning to MW4, the devs have transformed the Westbridge Training Facility into a dynamic multiplayer battleground. If that’s confusing, let me explain. When you drop into the new Kill Block map, the combat arena keeps shuffling between rounds. This is the high-intensity mode players have been waiting for! So, players have to memorize their routes, come up with new strategies on the spot, and keep adapting to this ever-changing map to secure the win.

The devs have stated that they have created over 500 distinct configurations. So that every match will feel different and give rise to numerous tactical challenges players need to overcome. The new Kill Block mode is confirmed to support 3v3 and 10v10 battles at launch. Devs are promising more new sections and configurations once the game goes live in October this year.

Battle Pass and Cosmetics

While Infinity Ward hasn’t revealed the battle pass for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, they have released an unexpected statement regarding the cosmetics in the upcoming game. As the team is strongly committed to delivering an authentic Modern Warfare experience, the goofy operator skins won’t be a part of COD anymore.

The official Call of Duty X account posted: “We got the feedback. No BS. This is all about staying true to Modern Warfare. No clowny skins for launch and seasons beyond.” This isn’t the first time this has happened; earlier, Black Ops 7 left behind the clowny skins. So, all the upcoming cosmetics will be based on military outfits, which is a huge relief for all the COD players around the world.

COD Modern Warfare 4’s Graphics and Platforms

If you watched the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 announcement, then you know that MW4 will be the best-looking COD game yet. To let you step into the shoes of the soldiers risking their lives in Korea, Infinity Ward has gone all out to achieve a giant leap in visual fidelity in Modern Warfare 4. “Industry-leading VFX, lighting, materials, and character rendering work together to make combat clearer, more immersive, and more impactful in Modern Warfare 4.”

Since COD MW 4 is built with current-generation PC hardware and consoles in mind, the game will be available only on PC, PlayStation 5|5 Pro, XBOX Series X|S, and, surprisingly, Nintendo Switch 2.

PC

Similar to all the other games releasing on PC, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will be extra-optimized for this platform. Infinity Ward is working on PC-specific performance optimization options supported by upscaling and frame generation. The game is confirmed to launch with the new DLSS 4.5 support.

Since the Ray Reconstruction for DLSS 4.5 goes live in August, MW4 will also be supported. In addition, you can expect the complete Ray Tracing implementation for the PC port as usual.

QoL Improvements

Furthermore, Infinity Ward is actively addressing the problems players have been running into in the previous Call of Duty games. For starters, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 is removing the forced restart prompt in the COD launcher after every update. In line with the other QoL improvements, let’s see if the team can also reduce the overall size of the game during launch.
