With Marvel Rivals Season 8.5’s release just around the corner, Guangguang is back with a new Dev Vision episode. As always, the new mid-season update is loaded with exciting new content for Marvel Rivals fans. Cyclops is finally joining the Marvel Rivals hero roster. Along with the new brand-new Duelist hero, a new map, a new summer event, swimsuit skins, and more are coming to the game. So, discover everything new coming to Marvel Rivals in Season 8.5.
New Duelist Hero: Cyclops
Jean Grey assembled the X-Men and stormed into the Alchemax HQ to rescue Cyclops. Thus, the founding member of the X-Men is officially joining the hero roster of Marvel Rivals as the 51st hero in Season 8.5. Guangguang also cleared everyone’s doubts regarding his role by announcing Cyclops as the new Duelist hero.
Cyclops’ entire kit is based on his iconic Concussive Optic Blast. He can shoot his optic beams in burst fire mode (primary fire) or fire straight all at once (alt fire). His main mobility ability lets him quickly glide back into the covers.
As teased earlier, Cyclops’ remaining two abilities let him shoot beams that can ricochet between characters, similar to Moon Knight’s attack. Finally, when you activate his ultimate ability, Cyclops removes his visor and goes all out by unleashing his optic blast.
The new ultimate ability is so powerful that the beams can wipe out a squad all at once. So, keep an eye out for Cyclops as he is all set to shake the Marvel Rivals meta upon his arrival.
New Cyclops x Wolverine Team-Up
Cyclops is teaming up with his fellow X-Men, Wolverine, in Marvel Rivals Season 8.5. This new team-up, called Blast Slash, gives a powerful boost to Wolverine. Cyclops supercharges Wolverine’s adamantium claws with his optic blast.
Now Wolverine can aggressively deal extra damage with his melee attack and also gets a new ability, Kinetic Claws. Logan can now spin like a tornado with his claws out to shred his enemies into pieces.
New 18 v 18 Game Mode and New Map
NetEase Games is introducing Bounty Annihilation, a new 18 vs 18 game mode, in Marvel Rivals Season 8.5. And they are also adding a dedicated map, K’un-Lun Shenloong Arena, to the game for the new game mode. Get ready to head to a larger battlefield arena and clash with groups of foes on June 12, 2026.
New Holiday Event: The Rivals’ Summer Festival
The NetEase team is planning for more exciting content around the Summer season. Starting Season 8.5, The Rivals’ Summer Festival, a new holiday event, is kicking off on June 18, 2026. Players can participate and complete a list of challenges to earn up to 2500 Units for free.
Then, they can spend the Units on the new set of summer skins for Emma Frost, Doctor Strange, Cloak and Dagger, Spider-Man, Mister Fantastic, Lady Loki, Daredevil, Black Widow, Captain America, and White Fox.
Following Times Square, a new beach-themed social hub, Hellfire Bay Beach, is being added to the game alongside The Rivals’ Summer Festival. Players can party on the beach and take a swim in the new hub.
New 616 Day Vault
The eagerly-awaited 616 Vault is returning to Marvel Rivals for a limited time from June 12 to June 26. All the limited-time costumes (including the swimsuit) and events from July to September 2025 will be available in stores once again.
Path to Doomsday Update
Unfortunately, the phase 2 and 3 events of The Path to Doomsday are getting postponed. As the devs need extra time to polish the special game modes, Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released in late July, and Avengers: Infinity War in mid-October.
Furthermore, the balance changes for the mid-season update have not yet been announced. Guangguang mentioned that Zhiyong is busy working on the latest buffs and nerfs.
