Can You Fast Travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

In Short
  • In Dragon's Dogma 2, players will be able to fast-travel to the main points of the map using Ferrystones, which cost money and are a finite resource.
  • The upcoming game will also come with Oxcart rides as a way of fast traveling.
  • However, players will be open to risks such as an ambush when using this cheaper method of fast travel.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is one of the most anticipated RPG games of 2024. Besides all the elements like the character creator, a lot of gamers are wondering if Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a proper fast-travel system. After all, when the original Dragon’s Dogma launched, it wasn’t the case. So, if you’re someone wondering if you can fast-travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2, keep reading to find out what you should expect.

Is There Fast Travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2

As mentioned above, when the first Dragon’s Dogma launched in 2012, you couldn’t fast-travel. And it wasn’t until Capcom released the enhanced Dark Arisen version that they addressed the fast-travel system.

Fortunately, it has been confirmed that Dragon’s Dogma 2 will have fast travel. Capcom Dev 1 team member and series director Hideaki Itsuno confirmed in an IGN interview that the game will have fast-travel options. However, in classic Dragon’s Dogma fashion, it isn’t exactly how you’d think it is.

How Does the Fast-Travel System in Dragon’s Dogma 2 Work?

I previously mentioned that fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma works differently. In the first Dragon’s Dogma, players had to buy Ferrystones. These used to cost around 2000 gold and were finite resources you use to travel between major locations on the map.

And, as per Hideaki Itsuno’s interview, this system is returning. Except Dragon’s Dogma 2 is doubling down on the exploration aspect. Hence, Ferrystones are returning to the game and will work as before. However, Dragon’s Dogma 2 has a brand-new fast-traveling system where you can opt-in for cheaper Oxcart rides along certain routes.

As Itsuno says in the interview, Oxcarts have their own problems. One of the biggest problems is that players using this system will be open to ambush from goblins and monsters. And a Griffin might swoop in and take out your Oxcart, effectively making you walk back to your destination. The interview is very insightful and gives some good reasons for under-reliance on the fast-travel system for Dragon’s Dogma 2.
