Want to leave a funny quip on an Instagram post or Reel that only you, your followers, and your close friends can see? You can do that with the new disappearing notes feature on Instagram. In this read, I will take you through this fun new feature, explain how it works, and how you can use it to leave secret notes on other’s posts on the platform.
What are Disappearing Notes on Instagram?
Instagram notes let you share your current status, mood, or even a song with your friends and followers. It even received the ability to take short videos. But now the platform has expanded Notes to posts and Reels. Think of it as a comment that will appear floating as a bubble on top of the Reel.
The best part is, that it’ll only be visible to followers who follow you back or close friends. You can manage whom you are sharing it with while drafting the note. And it automatically disappears after 3 days unless deleted.
How to Add Disappearing Notes on Instagram
Now that we have given you a brief explanation of the feature, let us take a look at how you can create and share your own note on Instagram posts or Reels.
- On Instagram, head to the post or reel where you wish to leave a note.
- Tap on the share icon from the bottom.
- Here, tap on Add note from the app’s share menu and then type your message.
- Next, hit the Share with dropdown menu under your note to select whom you want to share this message with. You can pick between Followers who follow you back or Close Friends.
- Once selected, tap on the Share button.
Things to Know Before Leaving a Note on Instagram Posts or Reels
- Your note will disappear automatically after 3 full days.
- Only people who follow you back will be able to read the note you’ve left on the post.
- Others will not get notified when you leave a post unless you have tagged them in it.
- People will only see the note when they come across it while browsing Instagram.
- The notes won’t be visible even to the creator of the post themselves.
- The creator can choose to disable this option, so you won’t be able to create a note over their content.
That’s how you can leave a disappearing secret note on Instagram posts and Reels. The feature is already out, but if you haven’t received it yet, then make sure you are using the latest version of the app. I think it’s a good feature but given the nature of the platform, it will probably be used for gossiping about someone behind their back or making fun of them. That’s why I feel at least the creator should know about the contents of the note.
