Xiaomi is not only the number 1 smartphone brand in India over the past eight quarters, the company’s Mi TV line has also reportedly been doing pretty well in the home entertainment sector. In a tweet on Wednesday, the company’s head of India operations, Manu Kumar Jain, cited an IDC report to claim that the company has now retained its crown as the number 1 smart TV brand in the country for 5 quarters in a row.
As can be seen from the infographic posted by Xiaomi, the company apparently holds a stranglehold in the television sector with a 32 percent market share of all smart TVs sold in the country, while traditional segment leaders, LG, Samsung and Sony, lag way behind with just 14 percent, 13 percent and 12 percent market shares, respectively.
It will be interesting to see, however, as to how the market dynamics will be affected once OnePlus launches its much-awaited televisions in the country later this year. As for Xiaomi, the company also recently launched Redmi-branded TVs in China, but there’s no word yet on when they will make their way to India.
With IoT slowly but surely becoming a thing in most households in India, the Smart TV sector in the country has seen tremendous growth over the past few years, and Xiaomi has well and truly been in the forefront of that growth with its affordably-priced Mi TV lineup. The company sells a large number of MI TV models in India, starting from ultra-affordable 32-inch devices like the Mi TV 4A 32-inch and going right up to the more premium Mi LED TV 4 PRO 55-inch.
