DC Studios has made a massive comeback with its latest releases, and while there is much more to come, fans have their eyes locked on the release of Supergirl. While there is much to unpack with this upcoming release, one thing has been eating up fans. In every clip we have seen so far, there are multiple instances where Krypto does not look so good, which has fans worried about our favorite furry friend, and all they want to know is whether Krypto will die in DCU’s Supergirl.
Does Krypto Die in Supergirl 2026?
Looking at Supergirl’s teaser, while it does give you some idea of the plot, there is not much we can figure out regarding the events. However, one thing that is constant regarding the teasers is Krypto seen lying down, with Kara next to him with tears in her eyes.
However, if you think Krypto might die in this movie, you would be quite wrong. Supergirl is a retelling of the comic book titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with certain artistic liberty. In the comic book, we see that Krypto is poisoned and gravely injured by a villain named Krem, but Kara finds a cure, and Krypto makes a full recovery.
Because this movie will be adapted from Woman of Tomorrow, there is highly likely that Krypto will not die in the Supergirl movie. While we might get to see him gravely injured and in pain, he is unlikely to die.
How Did Krypto Die in DC Comics?
While Krypto will survive this movie, in the comics, he has had a rather unfortunate fate. In Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow, published in Superman #423, Krypto met his end in battle while defending his best friend.
We see that Kryptonite Man has overpowered Superman and is about to kill him, but Krypto jumps into action and tears apart Kryptonite Man’s throat, killing the villain.
However, he is exposed to a lethal dosage of Kryptonite radiation and does not make it. Krypto dies to protect Superman in DC comics, and I hope we never have to see it on screen. So, let’s wait and see what Supergirl has in store for us as it releases on June 26, 2026.
