The Last of Us Season 2 is right around the corner, and fans cannot wait to see Joel and Ellie resume their journey in the infected world. While we await the sequel, a new update has drawn the attention of the fanbase, all thanks to its cryptic nature. Recently, a red-carpet event for The Last of Us Season 2 took place where both co-writer Halley Gross and co-creator Neil Druckmann teased that Season 2 Episode 6 of The Last of Us Season 2 is “incredibly special” and carries notable emotional weight, which will be felt by the audience.

What Is The Hype Around The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 6?
During the red carpet event organized on March 25, 2025, for The Last of Us Season 2, all the stars appearing in the TV series graced us with their presence, along with co-writer Halley Gross and co-creator Neil Druckmann. Both the talented creators engaged in a conversation with Variety where they were asked about an “episode they are particularly excited for.” To this, Halley Gross said,
“I think there is something incredibly special for Six. I think Six is a really beautiful story, and I’m really proud to have gotten to be a part of it”
While Gross hinted that the story being brought to life in this episode is beautifully crafted, she refrained from sharing any further details to solidify what we fans could look forward to. Next, the same question was pitched to co-creator Neil Druckmann, who responded by saying,
“That episode is really special because it really gets into the heart of what the show’s about…with characters that we love so much”
While Druckmann, same as Gross, refrained from sharing specifics about the anticipated Episode 6, he did mention that it will be a moving experience for both the fans of The Last of Us show as well as the game.
These revelations, even though cryptic, have stirred up the fanbase, who are burning up for answers regarding what moment the creators could be referencing. However, there is one emotional moment in the TLOU 2 video game that they both could be referencing, and I guess if you are someone who has played the game, you might have an idea what it is going to be.
What Could The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 6 Be About?
Looking at the hype and anticipation around The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 6, the fan has come up with multiple theories about what it could be. Some think that this particular episode could bring us a flashback sequence of Joel and Tommy’s childhood after Joel’s death (from the point of view of Tommy). While another section of fans think that it could show us the emotional turmoil Ellie goes through after Joel’s death.
However, as far as my assumption goes, The Last of Us Season 2 Episode 6 could bring us Joel’s brutal death at the hands of Abby and its aftermath faced by Ellie and Tommy, one of the most traumatic and sad arcs we have seen in all of gaming history.
The way the significance of The Last of Us Season 2’s sixth episode is being reinforced, I cannot help but think of a different moment in the story. Doing this in the second half of The Last of Us Season 2 will also save Ellie’s revenge arc for Season 3, as I don’t think the creators would want to rush one of the most important elements in The Last of Us 2.
