Making her first appearance in Man of Steel #3 in 1986, Magpie was the creation of John Byrne. The story of this issue of comic books takes place after the Crisis of Infinite Earths and hence brings us a rebooted version of Superman’s origin. In this comic, Superman and Batman meet for the very first time. Superman flies to Gotham to stop Batman, who he only knows as an unlawful vigilante.

However, they start working together to stop a new jewel thief named Magpie. She only steals jewels that are named after birds and replaces them with a replica that is booby-trapped and the person who tries to touch it, usually ends up dying because of the lethal trap. Magpie was the first villain that was caught by Batman and Superman working together and was put into Arkham Asylum.

What Was Magpie’s Role in The Penguin?

In The Penguin series, we learn that Magpie is in the cell right next to Sofia in Arkham Asylum. She tried to be friends with Sofia however, her crimes were not mentioned in the series. Sofia thought that Magpie was spying on her for the doctors at Arkham Asylum who are trying to prove that she is insane and out of agitation, she banged Magpie’s head on the table and killed her.
