- The Penguin Episode 5 brings in Con O'Neill as Chief Mackenzie Bock.
- Con O'Neill took up this role previously in The Batman.
- In The Penguin, he appears at the Falcone Manor to investigate the death of The Falcones
The fifth episode of The Penguin is now live. At the very beginning of the episode, we see that the police are at the Falcones’ house recovering the dead bodies of the Falcone family. Among the boys in blue, we see a familiar face. No, it was not Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon; instead, we got to see Con O’Neill as Chief Mackenzie Bock from The Batman, released in 2022.
Con O’Neill as Chief Bock Is the Chief of Gotham Police and a Corrupt Officer
Chief Mackenzie Bock was introduced to us back in 2022 with the release of The Batman. He is set up to be the Chief of Gotham Police Department and proved himself to be a nuisance in the way of both, Batman and Jim Gordon’s way. He is a corrupt officer who is likely on the payroll of the Falcones. Chief Mackenzie Bock has a rather supporting role in the Batman movies and mostly comes into play in the scene where Batman gives himself up to the Police.
If we talk about The Penguin, Con O’Neill, takes up the role of Chief Bock once more and appears at the Falcone Manor to collect the bodies of the dead Falcones. He questions Sofia about everything and is also suspicious of her when he asks about Johnny Viti. However, even though his suspicion is right, Sofia puts up such an act that he has to back off and she also says that Bock himself showed up because now he won’t be able to make money on the side since the Falcones are gone. However, only time will tell if he is going to investigate Sofia further or not.
Is Chief Mackenzie Bock in DC Comics?
In DC comics, Mackenzie Bock does exist but it is a completely different version of the character. In the comics, he is known as Mackenzie “Hardback” Bock who is a detective in the Gotham City Police Department. He came into play within the “No Man’s Land” storyline of DC comics where he singlehandedly took care of and protected more than 100 blocks of the city. He also trained the fit people to fight and to gather supplies. However, in order to make sure the survivors he was looking after were okay, he had to strike a couple of deals with The Penguin.
After the events of “No Man’s Land” came to an end, Mackenzie Bock was promoted to the Chief of Gotham Police. However, the version of him we have seen in The Batman and now, in The Penguin tells a completely different story.
