Superman Trailer: 10 Characters and DC Easter Eggs We Saw

In Short
  • Superman trailer gives the first look at Krypto the Superdog.
  • The trailer also gives us a look at the Kent Farm and Jonathan Kent.
  • We also get to see Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, and Hawk Girl

The first trailer for Superman is here and trust me when I say that this trailer has soared past every single expectation I had from DCU and James Gunn. The trailer perfectly brings in the essence of Superman and what he stands for. The clip contains a lot of elements. It features multiple characters and some DC easter eggs. So, let’s talk about what we saw in the new Superman trailer!

1. Lex Luthor

Lex Luthor has been the archnemesis of Superman for as long as one can remember. We have seen multiple versions of him on our screens since the first time Superman stepped out of the pages of comic books.

This time around with James Gunn, Nicholas Hault has stepped into the shoes of Lex Luthor, and in the Superman trailer, we get his first look. When his casting was announced reactions were mixed but looking at how Nicholas has embodied the role of Lex, it seems that he is going to deliver an astonishing performance.

2. Guy Gardner

Green Lantern is one of the most loved characters in DC and since Ryan Reynolds, no one has appeared as a live-action Green Lantern on screen but now, a Green Lantern is back on screen. However, this time around we are not going to get Hal Jordan but instead Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner. Honestly, I did not know what to expect from him but looking at how accurate Gardner is in the trailer, I am convinced that James Gunn knows what he is doing.

3. Hawk Girl

Hawk Girl has been seen multiple times in Animated DC movies and shows but with Superman, we are getting the first ever live-action adaptation of Hawk Girl. In Superman, Hawk Girl is being played by Isabela Merced but we did not get any good shots of her in the trailer we got to see just a glimpse of her in action and it looks fantastic.

4. Metamorpho

Metamoprho is one of the most underrated superheroes in DC and it’s good to see him come on screen with Superman. Metamorpho is being played by Anthony Carrigan and even though we did not get to see him in action, we did get a small glimpse of Metamorpho but his makeup looks on point so let’s wait and see what happens!

5. Mister Terrific

One of the most anticipated appearances in Superman is of Mister Terrific. This particular character is not that well known but those who know him would vouch for how cool and badass he is. We got a glimpse of him using his powers and a close-up shot of Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. His suit looks insanely good as if the actual character has walked out of the pages of comic books.

6. Krypto

By far the most anticipated appearance in Superman was that of Krypto the Super Dog. In the trailer, we get to see Krypto helping Superman after he is gravely injured and he looks adorable. Some people have complaints that Krypto is a white Labrador and his breed has been switched but let me clarify that this is not true.

Krypto has been depicted as multiple breeds throughout DC comics so we cannot really pin point what breed he is. However, this version of Krypto looks to be inspired by the Silver Age of Superman comics.

7. Stagg Industries

Some pictures from the shooting of Superman surfaced when people pointed out that the suits worn by Guy Gardner and Hawk Girl had “Stagg Industries” logos printed on them. Now, that the trailer has been released, it is confirmed that Stagg Industries are going to be a part of this movie. This revelation also points towards the fact that in the DCU, we could see the formation of the JLA (Justice League of America). So, let’s wait and see what happens!

8. The Kent Farm

The Superman trailer also gave us a shot of the Kent Farm which is like an easter egg and it looks very different from the versions we have seen so far with live-action Superman movies. Now, since James Gunn had already confirmed Superman will not feature any backstories or Superman’s origin, this shot could be from a flashback Superman has. However, nothing can be said with utter confidence as of now.

9. Jonathan Kent

The trailer also gives us a look at Pa Kent, or Jonathan Kent, the adoptive father of Clark Kent. As of now, we do not have any details if he is going to have a major influence in the story of Superman. However, the clip we see again seems to be a flashback sequence since Clark’s dad passed away before he became an adult, so let’s wait and see what happens.

10. Fortress of Solitude

We also get our first look at Superman’s Fortress of Solitude. We do not see a clear image of the fortress but it seems Christopher Reeves’ Superman heavily influenced this version. The clip shows the fortress rising from the ice so we can expect to see a sequence where Superman builds his fortress.

11. Kelex

Some of you might not be able to pinpoint who this blue robot Superman is grieving. Well, that’s what I’m here for, that blue robot is Kelex. In Superman comics, he is the sole caretaker of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude but in the comics, he is golden in color so it is pretty obvious that DCU has changed a few things around.
