In Short
  • ConcernedApe teased some new additions for the Stardew Valley 1.6 update, and one of them is new NPC winter clothes.
  • The player in the image teaser can be seen holding red fireworks, which produce a heart image in the air.
  • Finally, thanks to all the hints, we can assume that this gathering of villagers is due to the New Year festival.

As a huge Stardew Valley fan, you must be eager to find out what features are coming to the newest 1.6 update. Lucky for you, ConcernedApe or Eric Barone, the Stardew Valley developer, teased new content coming in the update on January 1st. With that said, let’s explore them together.

Even though Eric initially proposed the Stardew Valley 1.6 update as a minor update with a focus on features for the modding community, he continues to tease new gameplay additions and changes to get everyone super excited. One of those teasers is the latest X post (formerly Twitter) shared by ConcernedApe.

In the image above, we can confirm three new features coming with the next update. First, the NPCs are not wearing the usual clothes, but jackets, beanies, and scarves, which hint at them being winter clothes. Eric teased this upcoming feature a while back in an X post. However, what he didn’t reveal before are fireworks.

Winter clothes of Stardew Valley villagers in 1.6 update

You can notice a player holding and setting off fireworks. They are red and produce a beautiful image of a heart in the air. Moreover, after some digging, members of the community managed to find out that fireworks were present in the code already but had not been used. There are also blue and cyan variants that could produce different images.

Finally, the last feature we can confirm is the gathering of the villagers itself. It’s winter, the player is setting off fireworks and there is a sign saying -“Happy New Year!”. The only reasonable assumption is that it’s a New Year festival.

Since this tweet was posted at exactly 12:00 AM on January 1, 2024, it does make perfect sense. This festival seems to be a major one that the developer highlighted in the post above, and we cannot wait to experience it.

So yeah, the 1.6 update is quickly turning into one of the biggest Stardew Valley content updates to date. With that said, we can not be more excited about it as well as Haunted Chocolatier. What are you looking forward to the most in this update? Leave your guesses in the comments section, and a Happy New Year to all!
