The Redmi Note 5 Pro might have been launched just a few months ago in India, but rumors about its successor have been gaining momentum of late. According to latest reports, the Indian edition of the Redmi Note 6 Pro may well ship with a Snapdragon 660 under the hood. That’s according to a Weibo post by a leakster who is known to have revealed details about unreleased Xiaomi devices in the past.
Weirdly enough, the post has since been deleted, but the reason for that isn’t immediately known. As can be seen from the screenshots grabbed by SmartPrix, before deletion, the post also apparently claimed that the device will come in two configurations – one with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, and another with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage.
The Redmi Note 6 (and the Redmi Note 6 Pro) have been in the news fairly often over the past few weeks in spite of the fact that Xiaomi has been absolutely tight-lipped about it until now. The devices were recently spotted on Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), and while that revealed precious little about them apart from their model numbers, it confirmed that they are both well on their way towards becoming the finished product.
It will be interesting to see how Xiaomi positions the Redmi Note 6 Pro in India, given that the company already sells a ton of mid-range handsets at the price-point where it’s expected to be launched. From the Mi A2 with pure Android to the Poco F1 with a flagship-grade processor, the battle in the mid-range segment is now more fierce than ever, thanks in no small measure to the aggressive stance of Xiaomi.
