After all the teasers over the past few weeks, Realme (now branched out of Oppo) has finally launched the Realme 2 in India. As was officially announced earlier, the device comes with a notch up top, making it one of the most affordable devices to sport the controversial design feature. Most of the key tech-specs were already leaked a few days before today’s launch, and just about all of it has seemingly held up.
Realme 2 Key Specifications
The Realme 2 features a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 1,520×720 pixels (19:9 aspect ratio). It is powered by the Snapdragon 450 SoC instead of MediaTek’s Helio P60 that was found under the hood of the first-gen handset. The phone will be offered in two versions with either 3GB RAM plus 32GB storage or 4GB RAM plus 64GB storage. Both models come with a dedicated microSD slot alongside two separate SIM slots (three card slots in all).
Imaging options will include a dual camera set-up (13MP+2MP) on the rear with AI Beautification 2.0 and portrait mode, while the selfie shooter has an 8-megapixel sensor HDR support. The phone carries a 4,230mAh battery, and runs Android 8.1 with Oppo’s Color OS 5.1 on top. Another point to note is that the second-gen device will sport a fingerprint scanner unlike its predecessor, as well as the Facial Unlock and Smart Unlock features

Pricing, Offers and Availability
The device will be available exclusively on Flipkart, as was announced earlier. It will go on sale for the first time on September 4 at a price of Rs. 8,990 for the 3GB+32GB model, while the 4GB+64GB version will cost Rs. 10,990. They will be available in three different color options – Black, Blue and Red – all of which will come with the diamond finish of its predecessor.
The company also hinted that a ‘Pro’ version of the device may be launched next month as part of its ‘One More Thing’ teaser at the very end of the event.
It will be interesting to see how the device competes against the likes of the Redmi Note 5 and the Zenfone Max Pro M1, both of which are more powerful on paper, but also cost a tad more. However, it will certainly be a match for the standard Redmi 5 that comes with similar hardware and sports an almost identical price-tag.
