There are multiple ways to get Dragonite in Pokemon GO, and below we have listed them all:

  • Evolve Dratini: The primary way to get a Dragonite is by catching Dratini and evolving it. Dratini can be mostly found near water bodies or during specific Pokemon GO events. After catching one, you need 25 Dratini candies to evolve it into Dragonair, and another 100 candies to evolve Dragonair into Dragonite.
  • Raids: The best way to get a Dragonite without farming candies and evolving Dratini is from Raid Battles. It will return in Raids on April 4, 2026, during the Fashion Raid Day. As a Tier 3 Raid Boss, Dragonite is moderately difficult to defeat. However, if you bring the best counters from the ones we have listed, then the run will be much easier. Make sure to also carry some healing items like Revives, Potions, and Berries in case you need them.
  • Spawns: Dragonite is a rare Pokemon that has a very low spawn rate, like Mimikyu in Pokemon GO. It’s quite hard to come across one in the wild, but if you do, then we recommend using Golden Razz Berries and Ultra Balls.
  • Event-themed Special Research Tasks: Sometimes, specific events feature Special Research Tasks and Field Research that can give you a Dragonite encounter.
  • Trading: The last way to get a Dragonite is by trading it with other players. If you aren’t familiar with trading in Pokemon GO, then make sure to check our guide. You can even find Pokemon GO Friend Code and add new friends in the game for trading.

Can Dragonite be Shiny in Pokemon GO?

Where is Dragonite Ranked in Pokemon GO Meta?

Dragonite is a pseudo-legendary Pokemon that ranks high in the current Pokemon GO meta. Here’s a detailed analysis of it:

  • Raid Attacker: With Pokemon like White Kyurem and Mega Rayquaza in the meta, Dragonite doesn’t even come close to the top raid attackers. It ranks below the top 200 Pokemon when it comes to raids.
  • Gym Defender: As a Stage 3 Pokemon, Dragonite, has good stats, making it one of the best Gym Defenders.
  • Dragon Type Attacker: Dragonite is a decent Dragon-type attacker to have if you lack Pokemon like Rayquaza and Eternatus. With Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor, it falls in the top 30 of the category.
  • Flying Type Attacker: Unfortunately, Dragonite falls short among the top Flying-Type Pokemon, due to its average Flying moves. It’s ranked 60th in the category.
  • Great League and Ultra League: With the Pokemon GO Trainer Battle meta constantly shifting every update, new Pokemon are getting buffs left and right. And some of the old Pokemon, like Dragonite, are drifting away from the rankings. As of now, Dragonite ranks at 270 in both Great League and Master League, making it a poor choice for battles.
  • Master League: On the other hand, the ranking of Dragonite gets a lot better in Master League, where all the stats are maxed out. With Thunder Punch and Super Power, it ranks in the top 60 Pokemon of the league.

As a rare Pokemon, Dragonite is an excellent addition to your collection if you are looking to complete your Pokedex. However, it is slowly getting outperformed as new Pokemon are being added to the game.
