Having presented the legendary awards to the best actors, actresses, filmmakers, etc., for over a century, the Oscars, aka The Academy Awards, have always been the most prestigious award ceremony in Hollywood. However, snubs have happened time and again, even at the highly esteemed awards ceremony of the movie industry. This year’s Oscars are no exception! Cinema aficionados around the world feel that quite a few deserving movies and performances have been overlooked by the Academy Awards tonight. Thus, here is a list of the biggest snubs at the Oscars 2026 awards.
Best Actress in a Supporting Role

The Best Actress in a Supporting Role award, the very first one presented tonight at the Oscars 2026, has become a subject of debate. Amy Madigan, who played Aunty Gladys, has won an Oscar for her brief appearance in one of the best horror movies of 2025, Weapons. Despite having less than 15 minutes of screentime, Amy took home the award.
We believe that the Sentimental Value stars, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, or the One Battle After Another star Teyana Taylor, deserved the win. But let’s not forget that many have made history at the event by winning an Oscar with a brief appearance, such as Sir Anthony Hopkins for Best Actor (The Silence of the Lambs).
Best Animated Feature Film
The Best Animated Feature Film category has been a controversy since the 2026 Oscars nominees were announced. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle (review) and Chainsaw Man The Movie: Reze Arc (review), the Japanese anime movies that shook the world last year, were omitted from the nominations. Now, the academy has handed over the Oscar to the Netflix sensation, KPOP Demon Hunters.
While Disney’s Zootopia 2 (which arrived on streaming this week) and Pixar’s Elio weren’t strong contenders this year, both Little Amélie and the Character of Rain and Arco, one of which deserved a win, have gone unnoticed this year.
Best Actor in a Supporting Role
This year’s Best Actor in a Supporting Role award was a neck-and-neck battle between the favorites. Sean Penn was phenomenal as Colonel Lockjaw in OBAA and took home his third Oscar. However, the other majority believes Jacob Elordi (Frankenstein), or Stellan Skarsgard (Sentimental Value), or Delroy Lindo (Sinners) should have secured a win.
Best Music (Original Song)
KPOP Demon Hunters bagged another Oscar tonight, and it was the Best Original Song. While I believe it thoroughly deserved this award, unlike the Best Animated Feature, a part of the internet doesn’t feel the same way. Ryan Coogler crafted one of the greatest scenes in the history of cinema with the I Lied To You track from Ludwig Goransson and Raphael Saadiq, and it equally deserved an award in everyone’s eyes.
Best Actor in a Leading Role
There is no doubt that Michael B. Jordan was excellent as the Smokestack twins in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. But the odds were in favor of Timothée Chalamet, who gave one of his career-best performances in Josh Safdie’s Marty Supreme. Timothée squandered his Oscar chances by becoming the center of a controversy after his remarks about ballet and opera went viral just days before the 2026 Oscars event. So, MBJ cakewalked the Best Actor win today.
Best Picture
When Paul Thomas Anderson moved beyond and clinched the Best Director award at the Oscars this year, everyone anticipated that Sinners would go on to win the Best Picture. But things didn’t pan out the way many had hoped, as One Battle After Another was crowned the winner for Best Picture. It was another fierce showdown between the two top movies of 2025, but OBAA emerged as the winner in the end.
And these are the biggest snubs at the Oscars 2026, we believe. At the end of the day, experiencing cinema is always subjective, and so the snubs tend to happen every year. This year’s Academy Awards have been mostly a hit with an intense battle between Ryan Coogler’s Sinners and PTA’s One Battle After Another.
That said, let us know the movies and performances that you believe are snubbed at the Oscars 2026 in the comments below.
