The One Piece manga is at its peak right now as the latest Egghead arc is shaping up to be one of the best arcs in One Piece history. Oda has finally started to shed some light on many of the unanswered mysteries, and with Luffy’s Gear 5, it is fun as hell to read the manga. But that fun is coming to a halt for a while according to a new message from the creator Eiichiro Oda. Read on to learn about Oda’s message and the hiatus period of the manga.

One Piece Author Eiichiro Oda is Undergoing Eye Surgery

The official Twitter account of One Piece dropped the bomb about the manga’s hiatus yesterday with Oda’s message to the fans. In this message, Oda shared details about his battles with astigmatism. Astigmatism is a common eye condition that is said to make your vision blurry. Thus, Oda mentioned that this condition has been interfering with his work a lot lately, and he decided to undergo eye surgery to overcome it.

Furthermore, Oda has also said that he discussed this problem with the Chief Editor of Shonen Jump for a year. And after considerable thought, he decided to get permission and take a break now for the surgery. Hence, the manga is now going on a 4-week hiatus until Oda’s surgery and recovery from the eye problem. In the end, Oda also made a little joke that he will be able to shoot laser beams out of his eyes after the surgery.

The One Piece manga undergoes hiatus for the next four issues of Weekly Shonen Jump, which is from issue 29 to issue 32. Therefore, the manga will start its break from the next issue, scheduled on June 19 and will return on 18 July. It’s sad news to hear that we will not get our weekly dose of One Piece chapters for a month. But it’s understandable that it’s for the well-being of one of our favorite mangakas, and we wish author Eiichiro Oda a speedy recovery!
