Domi Reversi is the curse spell with which Imu has the power to turn any of their targets into a demon. The transformed target becomes a demonic soldier and pledges their loyalty to Imu, mindlessly following their commands. Upon transformation, the newborn demons’ strength grows tenfold and also becomes immortal like the God’s Knights who entered an abyss covenant with Imu.

The Domi Reversi spell is the most overpowered technique in the One Piece series right now. Author Eiichiro Oda hasn’t confirmed whether this demonic spell is a result of Imu’s Devil Fruit powers. However, the creator has been crafting power systems we have never seen or heard of in the manga for the final antagonists of One Piece. So, we believe that the Domi Reversi spell is one of Imu’s very own predominant techniques.

This technique seems to have been inspired by the strategy board game, Reversi (aka Othello). The phrase Domi Reversi also originates from a Latin term meaning “returned home” in English.

Fortunately, Domi Reversi is not a quick transformation spell where Imu can switch anyone into a demon in the blink of an eye. Instead, it is a step-by-step dark magic process that Imu has to do as follows:

  • First, Imu performs the ‘Kuwaru’, a precursive spell to form the Abyss in their hand and then sends it down below the intended target.
  • Then, the target begins to drown in the abyss pentagram, and the demonic transformation process kicks off.
  • Imu can flip the target and let them submerge into the abyss even if they resist.
  • Once the target has been completely immersed in the pentagram, they emerge out of it as a demon.

The Rocks D. Xebec’s Domi Reversi case played out a little differently. Imu, who took control of St. Saturn in his monstrous form, used the tendrils to pierce Rocks’ body and invoked the Domi Reversi to turn him into their strongest demon yet.

In addition, we have also seen giants who got caught up in the middle of two other giants’ transformation, getting turned into one despite Imu not performing the spell on them. Therefore, if a demon transformation is happening right in front of someone, they must make sure not to get trapped between the ones under transformation, or they will face the same fate!

It hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, but it is heavily speculated that the Domi Reversi spell can be used on someone while they are in their homeland. If you take a look at all the characters who have been Domi Reversi’d so far, the Davy family, including Rocks, Dorry and Brogy, along with fellow giants, everyone has been turned into demons on their home turf. So, let’s wait to see if this popular One Piece theory regarding Domi Reversi comes true in the manga soon.

Imu sincerely believes that becoming a demon is truly the pinnacle of existence. Thus, demons are perfect creatures in their minds and are bestowed with the ultimate set of powers from the supreme ruler. The powers a person receives after being transformed into a demon by Imu are as follows:

  • Immortality: The first thing the demons receive is an immortal body that can keep regenerating, no matter the damage they receive.
  • Unreal Strength Buff: Then they are gifted with incredible levels of strength under Imu’s control. If they were already stronger before the transformation, then their strength surges even higher, as was the case with Rocks, Dorry, and Brogy.

Those who have been converted into a demon also get an appearance upgrade as they grow horns, fangs, and a pair of wings. Only this set of powers and abilities has been revealed so far in the case of Rocks or the Giant Warrior Pirates. We will update this section if there are more abilities than what meets the eye, which will be revealed in the future.

  • Rocks D. Xebec

There are a couple of ways to undo the Domi Reversi curse on someone, and we have discussed them below.

On the surface, the Domi Reversi seems like an unbreakable spell that can be removed only by the spellcaster, Imu. However, we have seen two different scenarios in which the Domi Reversi technique has been successfully undone in the Elbaf arc so far. The first time we saw someone undoing the Domi Reversi spell was during the God Valley Incident. Imu Domi Reversi’d Rocks and ordered him to slay his own family.

Then the demonic Rocks paths crossed with Gol D. Roger and Garp. The latter two formed a temporary alliance and fought to the death against the strongest version of Rocks. During this battle, Roger came up with a new idea to combine their haki masses to crush Rocks, and his method paid off big time. Together, they were able to defeat Rocks and break the Domi Reversi curse, freeing Rocks from Imu’s grasp.

The second instance where someone was freed from Imu’s Domi Reversi spell recently happened in the ongoing events of the Elbaf arc. Dorry and Brogy, who were losing their mind, decided to die like warriors by decapitating one another. Fortunately, the act of taking each other’s lives has undid the curse, and both giants were flipped back to their normal selves.

Therefore, the current ways to break Imu’s Domi Reversi curse are to overcome the demonic opponent with their haki or kill the unkillable monsters to free them. Many of the One Piece fans were pretty disappointed by this outcome, as we had hoped for a more distinctive solution rather than just killing the opponent.
