We are officially in the Elbaf arc of the One Piece manga. The OG Straw Hat Pirates somehow went missing and are busy causing a ruckus in an unknown Giant’s region. As teased in the last chapter, Eiichiro Oda has introduced fans to the new Sun God in chapter 1128. If this introduction got you wondering about who this new character is, is he an impersonator or a friend? Let’s find out.
The Sun God, aka Nika, is a fabled figure and has been worshipped by Buccaneers, Giants, slaves, and many others for a long time. At the end of the Wano arc, we learn that Luffy’s Gear 5 enables him to become Nika. However, in an unexpected turn of events, Oda has brought in another Sun God hailing from the Elbaf region.
What’s more frightening is that the new sun god’s appearance seems to resemble the mythological evil spirit, Wendigo from North American folklore.
Fans have already started to discuss and troll the Sun God, saying that he isn’t the Nika we know. So who is this new legendary character? We have three different options to look into.
The first, of course, is Loki, as we are in the homeland of giants. He has always been known as the trickster in the legends and can be impersonating the Sun God.
Although Loki seems like the right fit, there is one more character that will make much more sense. The Elbaf arc is believed to be inspired by Gulliver’s Travels (a prose satire by Jonathan Swift) by One Piece theorists. Fans have already started to point out the connections between both stories. If you look closely at the new evil-esque Sun God’s design, you can see that the character wears long heels. Oda typically prefers using this type of heel with female characters.
Thus, we can conclude that it could be a female giant behind the Wendigo mask. This female giant will likely serve as the princess character who will introduce us and the Straw Hats to the mysterious island. It’s similar to how we were introduced to Yamato, who was first wearing a mask in the Wano Country arc as well.
So, if this turns out to be true, we can’t wait to meet a new ally of the Straw Hat Pirates who is said to be similar to Glumdalclitch, the caretaker of Gulliver in the tale I mentioned above.
Last but not least, I hope you remember the God Valley Incident flashback, especially chapter 1096. In the said chapter, there was a member of the God’s Knights who was seen wearing a Wendigo mask behind Figarland Garling. Their mask looks super identical to the one the Sun God is wearing right now. So, could this mysterious character be a God’s Knights member?
With chapter 1128, Oda has once again made his fandom buzzing with so many mysteries. We would have to wait for another week to find out who the fake sun god is. In the meantime, let us know your thoughts about this new character in the comments below.
