The Nubia Z18 smartphone has been announced in China as a successor to the Z17 that was announced in June, 2017. The device is the latest in a long line of ‘affordable flagships‘ that have become the norm, and comes with impressive hardware at a relatively pocket-friendly price. The device has already been listed on the company’s official website, and is up for pre-order at a starting price of just 2,799 yuan (around $410, Rs. 29,000) in the country.
Nubia Z18 Key Specifications
The Nubia Z18 features a 5.99-inch 18:9 IPS LCD display with a 2180 x 1080 pixel resolution. As can be seen from the images, the device comes with minimal bezels on all sides, and the company says it has a 91.8 % screen-to-body ratio. It also comes with the smaller notch that’s reminiscent of the Essential Phone.
The Nubia Z18 is powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset, and comes with either 6GB or 8GB of RAM. While the first variant comes with 64GB of storage, the more premium version offers 128GB. Neither model, however, come with a microSD slot. The battery is a 3,450mAh unit with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4.0, and includes what the company is calling ‘Neo Power’ temperature control for better thermal management.
Imaging options on the Nubia Z18 include a dual rear-camera module that packs a 16MP+24MP setup, both of which have f/1.6 lenses. The camera offers Portrait mode, advanced scene recognition and 960fps slow-mo video recording. The front-facing shooter is an 8MP unit that’s paired with an f/2.0 lens.
One the software side of things, the Nubia Z18 runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box with Nubia UI 6.0 on top. It also comes with the Maverick voice assistant, and packs in some supposedly AI-based features and functionality.
