Nokia recently launched its first X-series Android smartphone, the Nokia X6, in China. With the X6, Nokia finally jumped on the ‘notch’ bandwagon, blending a new design element with respectable hardware, and above all, introduced the device at a highly competitive price point of just 1,299 Yuan for the base variant. As expected, the Nokia X6 generated a huge hype on social media with fans eagerly waiting for the device to see a wider release, but it appears that the smartphone will remain exclusive to China.
According to information received from a trusted source by NokiaPowerUser, the Nokia X6 will remain exclusive to the Chinese market, much like the Nokia 7 which was launched in the country last year and remained a China exclusive device. An HMD Global spokesperson confirmed the same in an email which said,“We can confirm that the Nokia X6 is exclusive to the China region only and there are currently no further launch plans to announce for other markets.”
But there is still some hope for the Nokia X6 to see a wider launch. HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas, recently acknowledged that the Nokia X6 is getting a lot of attention, and ran a poll on Twitter to assess the popular opinion whether the smartphone should be launched outside China. At the time of writing this article, around 6,500 people have participated in the Twitter poll, with an overwhelming 92% of the participants agreeing that the Nokia X6 should be launched outside China too.
And just in case the Nokia X6 is not launched outside of China, there is some consolation for the disappointed fans. According to Nokia Power User’s source, Nokia is preparing to announce two new smartphones- Nokia X5 and Nokia X7, both of which will be launched globally in the near future. Interestingly, HMD Global started sending out press invites for a launch event in the Russian capital city of Moscow May 29. It is being speculated that the Nokia X5 and X7 might well be announced at the event, however, no additional details regarding the aforesaid smartphones is known yet.
