With the Fall season coming to an end, Mojang is actively working on the Winter drop coming later this year. So, if you didn’t attend the Minecraft Live held in September, you might have missed out on the upcoming features. Most importantly, we already know the name of the next Minecraft drop, and it’s called ‘Mounts of Mayhem‘. It will redefine how players will explore the oceans and battle with enemies. With that said, let’s dive in and check out all the upcoming features in the Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem update.
Editor’s Note: last updated on November 27, 2025, to include new features in the 1.21.11 Mounts of Mayhem drop
New Mobs in Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem Update
Nautilus
The biggest highlight of the update is the Nautilus, the third new mob that Minecraft is releasing this year. It resembles the Nautilus shells that players can catch through fishing. Don’t worry, you can still catch them and make a Conduit in Minecraft.
The best thing about these mobs is that once you tame them, you can ride these creatures using a saddle. Not only is it the first time Minecraft is getting an underwater rideable mob, but you also don’t need to worry about your oxygen levels while riding a Nautilus.

While riding these aquatic mobs, you get the ‘Breath of the Nautilus‘ effect that pauses the oxygen level depletion and helps you breathe forever underwater. And yes, there are baby versions of these creatures as well. Simply feed two adult Nautilus a pufferfish each while they’re in close proximity, and you get a baby Nautilus.
But with all these features, there’s something more dangerous lurking deep under the oceans. The update also introduces the Zombie Nautilus, which may not harm you at first, but the Drowned riding them with a Trident certainly will.
Zombie Horse
The zombie horse is galloping its way into the Survival mode of Minecraft. These mobs were once limited to the Creative mode of the game. However, once the Winter drop is released, they will spawn at the Plains and the Savannas only at night.
This will make survival during the night slightly more difficult because a zombie horse can spawn with a Zombie riding it. Since Zombies can yield weapons, they might obviously have the chance to carry a sword or the brand-new spear.
Imagine if you just spawned in Minecraft, and you didn’t even manage to create a dirt house in the first night. Now, if you see a zombie horse coming towards you with a zombie sitting on it, charging with a spear. It might be your final night in that world if it’s on hardcore mode.
Camel Husks
Camel Husks are the new undead variants that will only spawn during the night or in complete darkness. These creatures can sometimes have a Husk and a Parched mob mounted on top of them, making your desert ventures far dangerous than ever. Not only will the Husk be able to charge at you using a spear, but the Parched will also shoot arrows dipped in weakening potion.
However, these eerie creatures are fully tameable despite their zombified state. Once you’re able to defeat the two mobs riding on top of them, the Camel Husk will no longer be hostile towards you, and feeding them a couple of rabbit’s feet will help in gaining their trust.
Parched
Parched is a new skeleton mob variant that you will find wandering in the desert biomes. These have a dry, cracked, and almost mummy-like design with bandages emerging from their hands and legs. Unlike the regular white skeletons, the Parched don’t burn during the day or under direct sunlight.
What makes these creatures far more dangerous is that they shoot Arrows of Weakness rather than the usual ones. Therefore, once you get hit, it will be a battle of endurance, and if there are more hostile mobs nearby, consider fleeing the area as soon as you can.
New Items in Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem
Nautilus Armor
In the upcoming update, if you’re able to find a Nautilus, be sure to tame it and make it your all-time underwater companion. Well, there’s always a small fear of the mob getting attacked or killed due to its limited health. That’s where the fashionable Nautilus armor, offering both protection and style, is stepping into the picture.
If you’re more into personalization, there are options to get the shiny orange copper, steel colored iron, lustrious gold, shiny diamond, or the dark and tough Netherite Nautilus armor, too. Each tier provides a varying amount of protection to the mob, so make your choice accordingly.
Netherite Horse Armor
The Netherite horse armor has finally entered Minecraft after years of requests. And, this will give horses the highest amount of protection in the game. The Netherite horse armor has a sleek, dark look that perfectly matches your Netherite aesthetic, especially if you’re using an orange color Resin armor trim.
Crafting a Netherite horse armor will simply require a Smithing table, a Smithing Upgrade Template, a Diamond horse armor, and a Netherite ingot. Once made, you can place the armor on any horse, even the brand-new zombified versions as well.
Spear Weapon in Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem Update
Next on our list is the second biggest highlight of the Minecraft Mounts of Mayhem update, the new weapon – Spear. It’s a brand-new tiered weapon, like the swords and axes. It is going to be one of the most versatile weapons due to its two types of attacks: Jab and Charged Attack.
While the Jab delivers quick thrusts at the opponent, the Charge attack is perfect when you’re riding a mob or going at high speeds on a boat or a minecart. Its charge attack works in a similar fashion to the Mace’s smash attack. The faster you travel with the spear, the harder your blow will land on the enemies, dealing more damage.
Furthermore, you go through three stages while charging with the spear. The first is the idle state, where the spear can deal damage, cause knockback, and dismount your enemy. Next, when it starts shaking, it loses the ability to dismount, and finally, when the spear falls, it can only deal damage and lose the knockback ability.
However, with time, you’ll be able to wield the spear again in its ideal stage, but that totally depends on the tier of weapon you’re using. Higher-tier like diamond and Netherite, go through these stages fast, but have a longer cooldown time.
Lunge Enchantment in Minecraft 1.21.11 Update
In addition to the spear, Mojang has introduced an exclusive enchantment that can only be applied to this weapon. It’s called the Lunge enchantment, and it powers up the Jab attack. Lunge has three levels, and that means you get more damage output with a higher level.
You can either get the enchantment via the Enchantment Table or by using the Lunge enchantment book from fishing or trading with the Librarian, one of the Minecraft villager jobs. Once you apply it to your spear, performing a Jab attack propels you forward horizontally while you’re pointing in any direction.
This won’t work if you are pointing vertically upwards or downwards. Moreover, the spear loses a decent amount of durability while performing the Jab once this enchantment is equipped. Another drawback of using the Lunge enchantment on your spear is that it’s not compatible with Mending. So, you’ll have to depend on applying Unbreaking so that your Spear stays intact for a long time.
So, these are all the confirmed and upcoming features in the Minecraft Winter drop or the Mounts of Mayhem update. So, with the new tiered weapon and an underwater rideable mob, what are your expectations from this update? Let us know in the comments below.
