Mojang is testing the third major drop of 2025 and has released the brand new features of the update in Java snapshots and Bedrock Previews. With the fall drop, we are going to get the most anticipated mob, the copper golems. Not only that, but copper will have a completely unique tier of items like iron, gold, and diamond. With that and more, let’s check out all the new features of the Minecraft 1.21.9 drop.
Editor’s Note: last updated on August 19, 2025, to include new features coming in Minecraft Fall drop
1. Copper Golem
One of the biggest highlights of the Minecraft 1.21.9 update is the introduction of the outvoted mob, the Copper Golems. These cute little creatures will help in keeping all the items inside your chests tidy. The method to make them is really easy and requires a single copper block and a carved pumpkin.
Placing the carved pumpkin on top of the copper block will spawn a copper golem along with a copper chest underneath it. Place a copper chest in your base along with other wooden chests, and the golem will sort out all the items inside them in neat stacks.
Since the golems are made up of copper, naturally, they will oxidize with time, changing their colors in four stages. As the golem reaches the completely oxidized stage, it will turn into a statue, dropping any item it was holding and striking a random pose.
These statues can interact with a comparator, as each pose gives out a certain strength of Redstone signal. So get ready to experiment and make all sorts of cool Redstone structures in the game.
2. Copper Chest
Now that you already know how to get a copper chest from the description above, you should keep in mind it’s the only way to get the crafting recipe as well. Yes, it’s true that you won’t find a copper chest anywhere in the world once you create a new one.
The first copper chest can be obtained by spawning a copper golem, and you can get its recipe by breaking it and picking it up. The recipe requires you to place 8 copper ingots around a regular wooden chest to get the copper variant.
A copper chest has a clunky sound when interacted with and an X mark at its top. You can place items in this chest that you wish to get sorted and kept in neat stacks in other regular chests. This sorting is done automatically by the copper golems, so that you can head out for your thrilling adventures without stressing out.
3. Copper Tools and Armor
Next on our list are the brand new tier of copper tools and armor sets in Minecraft. Copper items will arrive in the upcoming Minecraft Fall drop to fill the gap of stone/ leather and iron gear. While the crafting process of each item remains the same, you can now use the copper ingots to get shiny, rusty orange colored pickaxes, swords, chestplates, helmets, and more.
Furthermore, don’t forget the fact that you can customize the armor further by using the armor trims in Minecraft. The set of copper armor will be tougher and stronger than leather, while the set of copper tools will have more durability than stone tools. However, if you want to progress further, you’ll surely have to upgrade to iron tools later in the game.
4. Shelf
In the Fall update, we will receive a unique item, which is shelves in Minecraft. In order to make these, you’ll need 6 sets of stripped logs of any wood type. Placing 3 of them each in the top and bottom rows on a crafting table will give you 6 sets of shelves.
The shelves can be placed on the walls of your bases, and here, you can store a full stack of items on display. The items will be positioned to the center by default; however, you can change it by placing other items on it.
Furthermore, these shelves can be powered with Redstone, too. This way, you can automate the process of transferring items onto it. Activate a single shelf to replace the leftmost three items, activate two of them together to replace the leftmost 6 items, whereas activate three shelves together to replace the whole set of items from your hotbar.
5. Copper Decorations
Next comes the set of copper decorations you can find in the next major drop of Minecraft. These include copper chains, bars, torches, and lanterns. Each has a crafting recipe similar to the iron counterparts, except for the torch, which is similar to the soul torch recipe.
In order to make copper bars, you need 6 copper ingots, while copper chains require a single ingot and two copper nuggets. On the other hand, in order to make a copper torch, you will need a piece of coal, a stick, and a single copper nugget. Finally, the copper lantern can be made using 1 copper torch and 8 copper nuggets.
Most of these serve for decoration purposes and add a touch of copper to your bases. However, the copper torches and copper lanterns can be used for lighting up your base and preventing mobs from spawning.
6. Chat Drafts
Now, you will have unsent chats saved in the drafts of the textbox. Any accidental closure of the chat box, like dying or opening up the dialogue box, will make sure that all the unsent chats are saved. However, this won’t happen if you close the chat box intentionally.
You can recover the messages by pressing the ‘T’ key again and highlighting the grayed-out text. Alternatively, you can simply move the pointer using the right arrow key or start writing again to recover the text.
8. Other Minecraft 1.21.9 Changes
Besides all the amazing features in the Minecraft 1.21.9 update, you will be experiencing an all-new wholesome relationship between the iron and copper golems. Occasionally, the iron golems can place a flower onto the nearby copper golem, and it will stay until it turns into a statue or is removed by the player using shears.
There are end dimension purple flashes, bringing a new depth to the end dimension as well. Along with these, there are all sorts of bug fixes coming up with the latest update..
So, these are all the new and confirmed features of the Minecraft Fall drop. This update includes a new mob and a new tier of tools and gear that will enhance the mining experience of all crafters. What do you think about the new additions? Let us know in the comments below.
