It’s been some time since Charlie McDowell’s The Summer Book hit theatres, and now the movie is finally heading to streaming release. In case you didn’t know, Charlie is the son of renowned actor Thomas McDowell, who played the iconic Alex in Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange. The Summer Book is Charlie’s fourth feature movie and his best work after The One I Love in 2014.

First of all, The Summer Book is an adaptation of Tove Jansson’s novel of the same name. This is a tale of grief and inspiration, exploring the life of Sophia (Emily Matthews) during her summer days with her grandmother (Glenn Close) on a tiny island in the Gulf of Finland.

She is a young girl who just lost her mother, and Sophie’s grandmother helps her navigate through this harsh phase of life as her whole family deals with a sudden loss. So, if you are looking for a serene drama, catch The Summer Book on Prime Video this Thursday.

Jim Jarmusch returned to his roots with a star-studded cast featuring Adam Driver, Cate Blanchett, Tom Waits, Vicky Crieps, and more.

This movie comprises three chapters, each covering the lives of various adult children, including brothers, sisters, and twins, trying to reconnect with their estranged parents. So, whether you are a Jim Jarmusch fan or not, this heartfelt drama will have an impact on you.
