Neutrogena SkinScanner Camera and Skin360 App Lets You Minutely Analyze Your Skin

One of the perks of living in an era with some impressive technology? We get to see and experience some innovative product across different categories. Yesterday Amazon announced Alexa integration with microwave ovens which is quite impressive, to say the least. And today, we have a new gadget called Skin Scanner and it’s companion app Skin360 from a brand we did not expect to be covering in the build-up to CES 2018.

Coming from the house of Neutrogena, the Skin Scanner is a skin analyzing device that attaches to your iPhone and tells you more about your skin. Essentially, it takes magnified images of your skin and measures the moisture content to give you an idea of how it’s faring.

It is accompanied by an AI-enabled app called Skin360 that analyzes the data and gives you a 0-100 rating. This is the part where we ignore that it is nothing more than a fancy gadget to convince you to buy more of Neutrogena’s skin care products. That’s because the technology behind it is quite impressive.

The device uses 12 LED lights and a 30x magnifier along with a moisture detector at the edge of the camera. As soon as you open the app and place it directly against your skin, it starts snapping images, and the app starts analyzing them.

We can immediately see the appeal of this technology to determine skin wear and tear at a microscopic level, especially in fields where users are exposed to hazardous materials or temperatures.

In Skin 360’s case, the resultant photos are extremely detailed and give you a close look at your pores, wrinkles, and moisture, etc. It starts comparing your skin to other folks of your age and assigns a maximum score out of 100.

From there, if you want to get a higher score, you can tap on the button ‘improve’ which obviously takes to Neutrogena’s store where you can fix your problems.

Although the device is kind of cool to try out once, it’s probably not worth spending your money on. But luckily, the device is not terribly expensive though. It’s priced at just $50, and it’ll go on sale starting this summer on company’s official website. So even if you are not interested in buying new cosmetic products, you could just get it too look at your skin up-close. Neutrogena will give attendees a closer look at the device at CES 2018 next week.
