This article contains spoilers about Ochaco Uraraka’s quirk: Zero Gravity. Proceed with caution.
What Is Uraraka’s Quirk in MHA?

As one would know, gravity is the force that keeps us and all the objects with mass on the ground. Now, without delving too much into science, Ochaco Uraraka possesses the “Zero Gravity” quirk, and as the name implies, she can nullify the gravitational force, making anyone or anything weightless and float in the air freely.
Zero Gravity is an emitter-type quirk, as Uraraka can use her gravity power to take control of her surroundings. But before she can negate the gravity, Uraraka needs to make contact with the target by touching them with her hands. Then, if she wishes to cancel her quirk’s abilities, Ochaco can simply fold her hands to stop the Zero Gravity effect.
This sure sounds like an overpowered quirk, right? But every quirk comes with its own set of limitations, and Zero Gravity is no exception. Let’s discuss the weaknesses of Ochaco Uraraka’s quirk next.
My Hero Academia: Zero Gravity Quirk’s Weaknesses

The Zero Gravity quirk comes with its fair share of weaknesses. Ochaco Uraraka has overcome some of her quirk weaknesses with rigorous training, and later, when she awakened her quirk. That said, here are the limitations of the Zero Gravity:
- Ochaco needs to touch her targets to utilize her quirk, as mentioned earlier.
- 3 tons or 3000 kg is the weight limit of the quirk, and Ochaco can only make people or things levitate within this weight limit.
- The amount of weight floating has a direct impact on Ochaco. So, the more things she makes levitate, the more strain she puts on her body.
- If she levitates in the air or makes things float for a longer period, it eventually causes nausea.
Did Uraraka Have a Quirk Awakening?

Ochaco has always utilized her quirk in the best way possible, be it summoning a meteor of objects in offense or coming in handy to levitate objects in defense. Uravity’s suit is also equipped to incorporate all her abilities, for instance, connecting strings to her target objects. With strenuous efforts, Ochaco even managed to overcome her weaknesses, and all that was left for her was the quirk awakening.
And the awakening of Zero Gravity finally happened in the final war when Ochaco was pushed to the brink of her death by Himiko Toga. The Zero Gravity quirk awakening eliminated two limitations: the need to touch the target and the weight limit of 3 tons. In addition, Uraraka acquired a new ability where she can create gravity bubbles, which send the target flying on contact without the need for her to touch it.
The awakening of Ochaco’s quirk caused everyone to levitate simultaneously in the surrounding area. Although the quirk’s main weaknesses were neutralized, Ochaco still struggled to control her powers upon awakening. But as a Pro Hero now, Ochaco must have mastered all of her abilities and use them flawlessly after the time-skip in the MHA series.
Uraraka’s Original Quirk in MHA Was Discarded by the Creator

MHA creator Kohei Horikoshi’s early concept art unveiled unexpected information about Ochaco Uraraka and her quirk. Did you know that Ochaco was supposed to get the Gigantification quirk? It doesn’t stop there, as Horikoshi-sensei initially planned to have Ochaco as the Mt. Lady in the MHA series.
However, the author discarded this idea after he realized that it wouldn’t be right for the main female character in the series. In the end, it turned out to be the best decision as fans love the Zero Gravity quirk. That said, what’s your rating for the Zero Gravity quirk? Let us know in the comments below.
