So, now that you have the list of cast and characters, here is a detailed description of what to expect, and what we can possibly see from the characters each actor will play. So, without further ado, let’s take a look!

Karl Urban as Johnny Cage

While the Mortal Kombat movie was absolutely insane in itself, one major complaint fans had about the film was the absence of Johnny Cage. However, the tease regarding his future apperance was more than enough to keep fans on their toes. Mortal Kombat 2 will feature Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, and looking at the trailer, this casting couldn’t get any better. The lore attached to the character is very similar to the one we get to see in the game. Johnny Cage is shown as a washed-out movie star whose filmmaking days are far behind him.

In his prime, he has given out blockbusters like Uncaged Fury and, like other movie stars, is actually a trained warrior. However, after his downfall, he had been neglecting his martial arts training, but was forced to step back in when he got caught up in the battle between the Earthrealm and the Outworld.

Adeline Rudolph as Kitana

Another new actor joining the cast of Mortal Kombat 2 is Adeline Rudolph. However, the character she is playing is one of the most anticipated for the live-action adaptation. Adelina will appear in the upcoming movie as Kitana. In the Mortal Kombat lore, she is the princess of Edenia and the love interest of Liu Kang. Kitana is a rather important character in the fight against the Outworld, and it looks like in Mortal Kombat 2, she will appear in the same capacity.

Damon Herriman as Quan Chi

Damon Herriman will be appearing in Mortal Kombat 2 as Quan Chi. However, as of now, all we have are reports confirming his appearance, but we have not gotten to see him in the trailer and have no information regarding how important his role is going to be in the movie.

There is a possibility that Mortal Kombat 2 will set up Quan Chi as an important character for future movies, but as of now, nothing can be said with absolute certainty.

Tati Gabrielle as Jade

Tati Gabrielle will appear in Mortal Kombat 2 as Jade. In the games, Jade was seen as Kitana’s best friend as well as her bodyguard. However, by the looks of what we get to see in the trailer, it appears that her role is going to be quite elaborate in the upcoming movie.

Ana Thu Nguyen as Sindel

Ana Thu Nguyen will appear as Sindel in Mortal Kombat 2, the wife of Jerrod, Kitana’s mom, and Queen of Edenia. However, she lost 10 Mortal Kombat matches to Shao Khan’s Dark Legions. In the games, Sindel’s backstory sees multiple variations, but there is one thing about Sindel that stays constant throughout. At her core, Sindel is not a good woman or a hero in the traditional sense, but simply pretends to do so.

Desmond Chiam as Jerrod

Desmond Chiam will appear as Jerrod in Mortal Kombat 2. In the game, he was the king of Edina before Shao Khan took over the realm after the Mortal Kombat Tournament. We are not certain as to what fate he will meet in the upcoming movie, but there’s a good chance it won’t be pretty.

Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn

Martyn Ford will play the role of Mortal Kombat’s ultimate antagonist, Shao Kahn. In the Mortal Kombat lore, Shao Khan is Shang Tsung’s master and Outworld’s emperor, which makes him the villain of this movie. He appears multiple times in the trailer of Mortal Kombat 2, and it seems as if he is going to have a rather looming presence in this movie, which might even get carried forward to the next Mortal Kombat movie, which is confirmed to already be in production.

CJ Bloomfield as Baraka

CJ Bloomfield will appear in Mortal Kombat 2 as Baraka, a violent and bloodthirsty ghoul-like creature who shoots blades from his forearms. We have seen the character in the trailer already, but nowhere in the clip has he been mentioned by name, which raises the chance of him being a different character of the Tarkatan race.

Returning Cast of Mortal Kombat 2

Now that you know about the new faces we will see in the movie, several actors from the previous movie will reprise their roles as well. Let’s check out the returning cast of Mortal Kombat 2.

Lewis Tan as Cole Young

Lewis Tan will appear in Mortal Kombat 2 as Cole Young after his incredible performance in the first movie. His character was an originally designed one and does not exist in the games. In the movie, he was shown to be an MMA fighter who is the direct descendant of Hiroyuki Sanada’s Hanzo Hasashi, AKA Scorpion. Cole played an important part in the first movie as a protagonist, but it appears that this time around, he could be in the background since Mortal Kombat 2 is focused more on Johnny Cage.

Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion

Veteran actor Hiroyuki Sanada will return to Mortal Kombat 2 as Scorpion. He has won multiple awards for his performances, the most recent one being for Shogun. Even though he is set to appear in the movie, he will not exactly play a central role as part of the heroes defending against Shao Kahn.

Co-creator of Mortal Kombat, Ed Boon, had a conversation with Entertainment Weekly where he revealed that Scorpion is not exactly a part of the team, but his apperance is key and “Very essential for certain parts.” In the trailer, we get to see him use the iconic line “Get Over Here!” so it certainly will be quite fun for the fans of the franchise.

Ludi Lin as Liu Kang

Ludi Lin appears in Mortal Kombat 2 as Liu Kang, the student of Raiden. He is the one who made the protagonists of the first movie battle-ready and is now set to return. This time around, he could turn out to be the mentor for Johnny Cage while being a supporting character in general. However, he could level up to being a rather central character this time, so let’s wait and see what happens.

Josh Lawson as Kano

Josh Lawson will return to Mortal Kombat 2 as Kano. His character was killed by Sonya Blade in the first movie, but it’s not uncommon in the lore of Mortal Kombat for characters to return from the dead. Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Ed Boon said that they’ve killed multiple characters in Mortal Kombat 1 and other games, so they deal with “Spirits and the NetherRealm and things like that,” while reassuring us that there are always ways to bring back dead characters.

Jessica McNamee as Sonya Blade

Jessica McNamee will appear in Mortal Kombat 2 as Sonya Blade once again after an electric performance in the first movie. She could potentially be seen as the leader of the warriors fighting for Earthrealm against the Outworld. This time around, there’s a chance that she will mentor Johnny Cage in the upcoming movie, so let’s wait and see what happens.

Mehcad Brooks as Jax

Mehcad Brooks will reappear in Mortal Kombat 2 as Jax, and by the looks of whatever we have seen so far in the trailer, he will put his new cybernetic enhancements to full use this time around and might even find himself in more fights than he did in the previous movie. So, let’s see what the upcoming flick has in store for us.

Tadanobu Asano as Raiden

Since his apperance in Shogun, Tadanobu Asano has become a household name and is now set to reappear as Raiden in Mortal Kombat 2. Raiden’s mission is to make sure that the Outworld does not, under any circumstances, conquer other realms, and is not afraid to go to any lengths to make sure that the Earthrealm and other realms stay safe. Daho Kahn’s tyranny.

Joe Taslim as Bi-Han

Joe Taslim will return for Mortal Kombat 2, but since Sub-Zero was taken down by Scorpion in the first movie, fans speculate that, just like in the games, Sub-Zero will return as Noob Saibot as an undead wraith, an undead warrior from the NetherRealm who will be revealed to be none other than Bi-Han. Even in the trailer, we see Scorpion fighting someone who appears to be Noob Saibot, so there’s a good chance this theory will turn out to be true.

Chin Han as Shang Tsung

Chin Han will appear in Mortal Kombat 2 as Shang Tsung, the primary antagonist in the first movie, and is now set to return in the upcoming movie. We see that in the first movie, he is a soul collector and was killed at the hands of Liu Kang, releasing all the souls he has collected; however, there is little to no information on how he will come back, so we will have to wait for May 8, 2026, to find out.
