MIUI 9.5 Global (Nightly) Reportedly Rolling Out to Redmi Note 4

Xiaomi has started rolling out the latest version of its MIUI Global ROM to the Redmi Note 4 – the company’s superstar device that emerged as the largest-selling smartphone in India last year and helped Xiaomi displace Samsung as the country’s biggest smartphone vendor during Q4. The update is also expected to roll out to a whole bunch of other devices in the coming weeks.

MIUI 9.5 is a relatively substantial update over MIUI 9 and, according to posts on the official Mi Forums, brings a plethora of new features, including quick reply, a new notification shade, a new weather app, new ringtones, new lock/unlock sounds and a new ‘Mi roaming app’. The update also brings along the February security patch, which is certainly a welcome change.

While some are also claiming that the battery backup as well as RAM management will improve with the incoming update, we’ll have to test that ourselves before confirming that.

From Left to Right: Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 4 & Redmi Note 5 Pro. All are expected to get MIUI 9.5

It’s worth noting here that this is the nightly build that’s rolling out right now, and it comes as MIUI 9.5.4.0.NCFMIFA for the Redmi Note 4 (Snapdragon model). The final, stable build is expected to be rolled out to all Redmi Note 4 (SD) units in the coming weeks provided no major bugs or security issues are found in this one. Either way, the update is still based on Android Nougat, and there’s no indication about when users can expect Oreo on their devices.

While MIUI 9 was surprisingly rolled out to dozens of devices going right back to the Mi 2 that was launched back in 2012, it isn’t immediately clear as to which devices will receive the latest update. The company had said back then that MIUI 9 will be the final update for many of those devices, so we’ll have to wait and see which smartphones and tablets in Xiaomi’s lineup are lucky enough to receive the latest software.
