Minecraft’s fourth drop of the year will change the underwater world forever. The Minecraft Live September 2025 stream has officially revealed a new mob, which will be added in the ‘Mounts of Mayhem‘ update. Yeah, we already have the name of the upcoming drop, and in this update, your new companion will be the Nautilus. Not the shell, but rather an adorable creature splashing deep under the sea. So, learn more about the Nautlius mob, and how it will redefine your underwater exploration and building as well.
Meet the Nautilus, Minecraft’s Underwater Mount
The Nautilus is an aquatic mob found deep in the Minecraft oceans. The best thing about them is that you can tame these mobs and ride them. To tame the Nautilus, you need to feed it some pufferfish, and voila, red hearts will appear, indicating that they love being friends with you.
In order to ride the Nautilus, players will require a saddle. Thanks to the Chase the Skies update, the saddles are now a craftable item, and you don’t need to loot village chests to get them. Once crafted, simply place the saddle on the tamed mob, and right-click on their body to ride them.
Nautilus Gives You Unlimited Underwater Breathing
The Nautilus isn’t just about traversing the depths of the ocean. While riding them, you will gain a passive status effect called the “Breath of the Nautilus“. When this passive is active, your oxygen bar will be on pause, allowing you to breathe freely underwater while riding the new mob. Hence, it makes a perfect companion for all the builders who can now expand their creativity under the sea as well.
Another cool feature of the Nautilub mob is its dashing ability. This allows you to surge forward at high speeds for a brief moment. So, if you aim towards the surface and dash forward, your Nautilus would leap out of the sea like a dolphin. You might even consider equipping the brand-new Spear weapon and dash towards other players in PvP scenarios.
If you ever want an army of Nautilus to raid the Ocean Monuments underneath the sea, try feeding them Pufferfish to breed and make a baby Nautilus. Finally, Mojang has thought about keeping our Nautilus safe by introducing their exclusive armor. These are available in Gold, Diamond, and other metals, and the amount of protection will vary based on that.
With all said and done, beware of the Zombie Nautilus that may sometimes have the Drowned mobs riding on top. To add to your worries, they might even carry a Trident and come straight for you. So, with all the unique rideable mechanics, what do you think about this new mob in Minecraft? Let us know your thoughts on the Nautilus in the comments below.
