In Short
  • Placing copper blocks under a note block produces a trumpet sound in Minecraft.
  • This feature was predicted by Minecraft players half a decade ago.
  • Placing different oxidised versions of a copper block will produce a different sound.

For years, Minecraft players have come up with wild in-game ideas. And, some of them received so much love and attention from the developers at Mojang that they decided to add them to the game. Among these was a surprisingly simple concept put forward by a fellow crafter, that what if placing a note block above a copper block produced an orchestral sound of a Trumpet. Fast forward to the latest Minecraft baby mobs update 26.1, and this exact idea has become a reality. What started as a Reddit thread years ago has now become an official Minecraft feature. So, dive in to learn more about the Minecraft copper Trumpet feature.

Minecraft Note Block Copper Trumpet is Coming with Tiny Takeover Update

With the brand new Minecraft 26.1 baby mobs update, a brand new sound, Trumpet, is being introduced to the world using the note block. So, if you’re wondering how to try out this feature, then simply download the latest Minecraft stable update or release candidate and follow the steps below:

  • Craft a note block first, and then make a copper block using 9x copper ingots
  • Place the block of copper on the ground, and then the note block on top of it.
  • Now play the note block using the right mouse button to play the sound of a trumpet.

This isn’t about a single sound either. The sound of the trumpet coming out from the note block varies with the oxidation stage of the copper block placed under it. Here’s how that works:

  • Unoxidised Copper Block: Standard Trumpet sound
  • Exposed Copper Block: Distorted Trumpet sound
  • Weathered Copper Block: Trombone-like Trumpet sound
  • Oxidized Copper Block: Distorted Trombone sound

In addition to these sound variants, each spans a different pitch range and gives players the flexibility to compose music in-game.

A Fan-Made Prediction For Minecraft Copper Trumpet Sound Comes True

Half a decade ago, a Reddit user by the name Hide_on_Push suggested that if a Note Block is placed on top of a copper block, it should sound like a trumpet. At the time, it sounded like a fun addition, with the simple logic that copper, being associated with brass, could naturally produce sounds like trumpets and horns. However, it didn’t really seem like the makers were focused on introducing any sound changes to the game yet.

What’s even more impressive is how the Minecraft community came together to add their thoughts and expand on this idea. One such Reddit user named Jaxaanse_Pizza even suggested that different oxidized stages of a copper block should produce different sounds.

Another user named Callumyoung101 talks about the more weathered a copper block is, the larger brass instrument they represent, like trombones. And, look how this same concept became a reality, and the oxidation levels are tied to the kind of trumpet sound a note block can produce.

Why the Copper Trumpet Matters for Minecraft Music

Minecraft’s Note Block system has been a creative side for players to explore, but it’s always had limitations. Although there are tons of tutorials and players building massive Minecraft redstone builds using note blocks to make incredible songs, they often lack depth, as there are no orchestral instruments.

The Minecraft baby mobs update has filled this gap by introducing a proper brass-like instrument, having multiple pitch ranges and variations. Now, players will be able to build musical setups and possibly introduce a spark to the long-lost golden era of note block songs.

Although the copper trumpet sound is stealing away the show, the Minecraft Tiny Takeover update brings more new features. These include the remodeled versions of all mobs in Minecraft and a new crafting recipe for golden dandelions if you want to keep them young forever. Moreover, you could also rename these cute companions with the new craftable nametags.
