We Know Everything There’s to Know About the Mate 30 Pro

Everything you need to know about Huawei Mate 30 Pro

Huawei Mate 30 Pro, the newest flagship from the Chinese phone maker will officially be launched in Munich tomorrow, but after the Google Pixels, this device could be the worst kept secret. Yeah, the design of the Mate 30 Pro appeared online only a month ago, but now, there’s nothing left to wonder as everything about this flagship has already leaked online.

First, reputed tipster Evan Blass tweeted out Mate 30 Pro renders earlier this week and well, the world of leaks has been chock full of new leaks for this device ever since. The renders were followed by real-life hands-on images (find attached below), along with a complete unboxing video (uploaded to TikTok) for the black colored variant. The header image above also leaked earlier this week, confirming all of the color variants, which is sweet.

The biggest leak of all came earlier today. The entire marketing brochure for Huawei’s flagship was uploaded on Weibo, detailing all the features that the Mate 30 Pro will be offered to users. This includes a huge waterfall screen with an 88-degree curve at the edges and a notch up-top that will possibly house dual selfie-cameras and new Face ID technology for more secure and snappy biometric unlocking.

There’s a physical power button on the right edge, along with virtual volume keys that provide haptic feedback. Huawei has also teased what’s being termed Air Gestures and well, they could be similar to gestures on the upcoming Pixel 4. We are still not sure of what the screen resolution and screen-to-body ratio will be, but the device will be IP68 certified, so that’s great.

Under the hood, there’s no arguing the fact that the newly launched Kirin 990 5G will be powering the show. Huawei itself has confirmed that its new chipset, based on the more efficient 7nm architecture, will first come equipped on the Mate 30 lineup. It will provide users access to plenty of AI features – both across the software and on the camera front. This chipset is expected to be coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage.

Let’s talk about the circular quad-camera module next. Yeah, the leaks are indeed true. Huawei Mate 30 Pro has a circular camera setup with a primary 40MP Sony IMX600 RYYB sensor (SuperSensing camera) with OIS, a new 40MP movie camera (an ultra-wide-angle lens, as per the English translation of the leaked Chinese brochure), an 8MP telephoto camera, and a third TOF (Time of Flight) sensor to round up the kitty. It even packs a Xenon flash and other sensors on the left of this circular module, which I quite like, to be honest.

As for the camera features, well, the latest leak states that the dual-40MP cameras will make it simpler for the device to capture details in complex environments. Mate 30 Pro would allow you to shoot some crisp 4K videos, even in low-light via its primary super-sensing camera. Since there’s no periscope camera onboard here, Mate 30 Pro will not provide you with 50x zoom, but you’ll still get 30x zooming capability via the telephoto camera onboard.

The highlight will, however, be the ability to capture 7680 fps (960×8) slow-mo videos, which I know sounds crazy, using this smartphone. We’re eager to learn how this new feature works and how good the output is, but that’s not all. Mate 30 Pro will allow the users to shoot 4K time-lapses – using the wide-angle movie camera as well.

Enough about the cameras, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro will run Android 10-based EMUI 10 out-of-the-box. The EMUI 10 update brings along a minor visual overhaul, system-wide dark theme, and several other new features in tow. There’s also a 4,500mAh battery onboard, with 40W wired fast-charging and 27W wireless fast-charging support. The reverse wireless charging feature is also available on the Mate 30 Pro.

So, as you can obviously see, almost everything about Mate 30 Pro has already leaked online ahead of tomorrow’s official launch. Huawei’s latest flagship is shaping up to be another camera beast, offering some gimmicky and some nifty camera features to the users. All that’s left to know is the price and availability details, so stay tuned for more updates and return back tomorrow at 5:30 PM IST for live coverage of the Mate 30 Pro event.
