The One Piece community can be split into two sides when it comes to Rocks D. Xebec. One side is convinced that Rocks is Blackbeard’s father, while the rest firmly believe Buggy is the heir of Xebec. After a long wait, creator Eiichiro Oda put the theories to rest by confirming that Rocks is the father of Blackbeard and revealed his face and character design in One Piece Chapter 1154. However, this reveal also saw Buggy fans add fuel and reignite the theory of Xebec being his father. Why and how, you ask? Let’s find out.
Rocks D. Xebec Face Reveal Reignites Buggy the Clown’s Father Theories

If you are an active member of the One Piece community, then you might know that Buggy was a strong contender to be Rocks’ heir, much like Blackbeard. The origins of Buggy the Clown remain unknown, even at the time of writing this post, except for the fact that he was born in the Grand Line 39 years ago. Moreover, he was seen working for the Roger Pirates as an apprentice since childhood.
If you examine the history of all the current Yonkos, each one has a history-shaping figure as their parent. For example, Shank’s father is Figarland Garling, Luffy’s father is Monkey D. Dragon, and Blackbeard’s father is recently revealed to be Rocks D. Xebec.
So, yeah, the fans joke about the current Yonko being ‘nepo kids.’ The only one whose legendary father is yet to be revealed is Buggy the Clown.
Rocks D. Xebec is now confirmed to be the father of Blackbeard by Oda; however, does this mean the Rocks D. Buggy theories can be laid to rest? Not yet, as fans have resurrected this theory with the Rocks D. Xebec face reveal in One Piece chapter 1154. Let’s take a look at all the new clues we have below.
Is Buggy Related to Rocks D. Xebec in One Piece?
The menacing character design of Rocks D. Xebec steals the limelight in One Piece chapter 1154. He is indeed the spitting image of Blackbeard, albeit a more ruthless version. However, if you have a second glance at Xebec’s face, you can split it into two sides.
Here, the right side of his face resembles Blackbeard, while the left side has an appearance similar to none other than Buggy.
Fans quickly began to notice the uniqueness of Xebec’s face. When you compare the sides of Xebec with Blackbeard and Buggy’s faces, you can’t help but agree with this strange design. Xebec’s face is more like Blackbeard and Buggy’s facial features mashed up into one, and you can view the comparison below:
The appearances are not the only clues we have, as there is another major detail spotted by the fans in One Piece Chapter 1154. In the final panel, you can find a mountain’s tip getting slashed out of the blue as Rocks and his crew arrive on Elbaf. So, why did this happen randomly? We believe it has to do with Xebec’s devil fruit power.
Rocks could have been the previous Bara Bara no Mi (Chop Chop fruit) devil fruit user, and he must have awakened the devil fruit, already being a formidable individual. With the devil fruit awakened, Rocks has control over the surroundings, and that could be the reason why he was able to slice a mountain without any trouble. Moreover, Buggy could have inherited his father’s devil fruit power, while Blackbeard inherited their father’s will.
The idea of Blackbeard and Buggy being brothers from different mothers adds an interesting layer to the story. Coincidentally, the Elbaf arc is also exploring the brotherhood between Hajrudin and Loki, who are brothers by will and not by blood. Until the day Oda introduces a new character or an already known character as Buggy’s father, fans believe Xebec to be Buggy’s father as well.
That said, what do you think about Buggy being Blackbeard’s brother in One Piece? Let us know in the comments below.
