Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: Is Megumi Fushiguro Dead?

To everyone’s surprise, Gege Akutami made some of the main characters from the Jujutsu Kaisen series return in his new spin-off, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo. Nobara Kugisaki had a cameo appearance, Yuji Itadori went on to have a major role, but the other member of the trio, Megumi Fushiguro, was nowhere to be seen in the JJK spin-off manga. So, is Megumi Fushiguro, the prodigy of the Zenin clan, still alive or dead in JJK Modulo? Discover Megumi’s status here.

What Happened to Megumi in JJK Modulo?

The major characters from the Zenin clan, such as Maki and even Toji Fushiguro, Megumi’s father, made an appearance in the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga. However, there was no sign of Megumi Fushiguro in the first 24 chapters of JJK Modulo. Megumi’s name did pop up in the final chapter of JJK Modulo, but not in the way we expected. It is now indirectly confirmed that Megumi Fushiguro is dead during the events of the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo series.

When Yuji and Nobara were talking about the former becoming a cursed object, Nobara wondered, “If only Megumi were here at a time like this.” This single line confirmed that Megumi had already passed away at some point, even before the events of JJK Modulo began. However, Megumi’s cause of death and the age of passing are never mentioned.

Megumi’s Death Was Inevitable in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo also focuses on the loneliness that follows the strongest characters. Yuji once mentioned that he would be lonely without Megumi Fushiguro in the main JJK series. To highlight Yuji’s loneliness or to make his character suffer, Gege had opted for the disheartening decision to let Megumi Fushiguro die before JJK Modulo commences.

Poor Megumi, he has been suffering back-to-back in both JJK and JJK Modulo. Megumi’s death was already hinted at when we found out that Yuka is the new user of the Ten Shadows Technique in the present day. Two users of the Ten Shadows Technique can exist at the same time as the technique is passed down in the Zenin clan.

Therefore, Megumi’s death was necessary to push the plot forward in JJK Modulo. Megumi fans (including me) who have been looking forward to meeting him at least once in Modulo were saddened to see that our favorite is no more. Megumi will always be one of Gege Akutami’s tragic characters.
