Jujutsu Kaisen’s Much-Awaited Merger Will Never Happen, and I Have the Proof

Kenjaku’s master plan, the merger of Tengen with humankind, has been one of the most anticipated events in Jujutsu Kaisen. The mastermind has been at it for over 1000 years, and the ‘Culling Game’ was the ritual to prepare for the merger. However, as we are fast approaching the end of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, fans are eagerly waiting to see if the merger will happen or not. But I have proof that the highly-anticipated merger is never going to happen in Jujutsu Kaisen. Let’s look at the facts.

Spoilers Warning: This article contains heavy spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga, especially the Culling Game and Shinjuku Showdown arcs.

JJK Fans Have Been Waiting Long on the Merger

Before learning how the merger would never happen, here is a quick recap of what the merger is to jog your memory. So, remember Kenjaku, the antagonist who stole Geto’s body and orchestrated the symphony of chaos from the beginning of the series. He had a single goal in mind – to make the merger of Tengen with humans happen.

He detailed his grandiose scheme to fuse Master Tengen and the non-sorcerers of Japan to bring a monstrous curse into this world. He wanted to strike two birds with one stone, i.e. to optimize the cursed energy and fully satisfy his curiosity regarding the entity born out of the merger.

Therefore, the mad sorcerer formed and inaugurated the Culling Game to fuel the merger process. However, he couldn’t fulfill his ambition as Yuta Okkotsu killed him right before he could kick off the merger.

Only Megumi Has the Power to Pull the Trigger

Kenjaku had established different rules for the Culling Game to keep it going to achieve the Merger in the end. He always stayed ten steps ahead of everyone and also calculated the scenario where he would lose his life. As a result, he made a backup rule that would be established in the event that he got killed. So, when Kenjaku was defeated by Yuta, the authority to activate the merger was passed down to Megumi Fushiguro in chapter 248.

At that time, Ryomen Sukuna was inhabiting Megumi’s body, so basically, the King of Curses had the ultimate power to trigger the merger. This was an excellent plan B put in place by Kenjaku, who completely trusted Sukuna to win against the sorcerers. Unfortunately, for him, it didn’t turn out to be how he wanted from the start.

In the fight against Sukuna in Shinjuku, Itadori Yuji awakened his true cursed technique, opened his domain, and vanquished the King of Curses to free Megumi from his control. As per the newly added rule in the Culling Game, the authority to start the merger was passed down to Megumi and not Sukuna.

And now that Megumi’s body and soul are not entrapped by Sukuna and that he has recovered, we can one hundred percent be sure that Megumi will never choose to activate the merger in his lifetime.

I discovered this rule while rereading the Shinjuku Showdown arc over the weekend, and I believe a lot of JJK fans seem to have forgotten this new rule, which transferred the authority to Megumi. So, I thought to highlight the solid proof we have from Gege Akutami’s mind and remind everyone that the chances of a merger happening are slim, especially with only two chapters to go.

I know that many of you in the JJK fandom must have waited to witness the merger by Kenjaku, but Akutami sensei seems to have scrapped it for a happy ending that brings (almost) everyone back to life.

That said, do you think the merger will still happen in Jujutsu Kaisen? Let us know in the comments below.
