The Betrayal That Changed Maki Forever in Jujutsu Kaisen
Maki returned to the Zenin Clan to collect cursed tools after the Shibuya incident arc. However, she wasn’t aware that her entire family, including her father, Ogi Zenin, had plans for Mai and Maki, not for their benefit, of course. They wanted to kill them as the twins looked worthless to them. This entire sequence is so personal because it is not a fight between the sorcerers or curses; it’s basically a father’s desire to kill his own daughters for the sake of his so-called pride.
Ogi attacks the twins in the Zenin estate and gives them severe wounds, with Mai receiving the most of the damage. He had the chance to kill Maki outright, but he left her believing that she would slowly succumb to her injuries. However, that doesn’t happen. When Ogi leaves, Mai tells Maki about that one secret she had been hiding over the years. She tells Maki that she is the reason why Maki wasn’t getting all of her potential. She clearly explains that in the world of sorcery, twins share powers, so Maki won’t be able to become what she is meant to be until Mai exists.
Mai already has her mind made up, so she uses her cursed technique to create a weapon for Maki and dies shortly after. Like Maki, Mai also suffered since childhood, so her death wasn’t to flaunt heroism, but to help her sister be free. When Mai was alive, Maki’s Heavenly Restriction was incomplete, and after her death, that bond was severed.
Maki Transforms into a Human Weapon After Mai’s Death in JJK
With Mai gone, Maki’s Heavenly restriction gets complete. She wakes up as a new person in the old body. The transformation wasn’t flashy at all, like the ones we are usually familiar with; it was Maki getting reborn. She is powerful who can compete even with the challenging enemies. She became a human weapon with solid strength, reflexes, and speed, far beyond the capabilities of an ordinary sorcerer.
Anyway, now that Maki has unleashed her full potential in the JJK Season 3, anime-only must prepare to see her transitioning in one of the strongest characters in the series. But what will Maki do after awakening this monstrous power? Well, you’ll have to wait for the rest of the third season to find out.
