Apple announced iOS 12 at WWDC 2018 earlier this month, however, the beta builds have so far been limited to developers. That changes now, as Apple has released the first public beta version of iOS 12 which can now be downloaded from the official public beta website.
In order to download the iOS 12 public beta, you must first sign-up for the Apple Beta Software Program, and once it is done, you are good to go. The latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system is compatible with the iPhone 5s and all other iPhone models launched after it.
As for iOS 12, it brings major performance improvements over its predecessor and will facilitate up to 70% faster camera launches, 50% faster keyboard display, and almost 2X faster app launches. Other key features introduced by iOS 12 include group notifications, Memojis, Screen Time for usage insights, a smarter Siri, multi-user FaceID login, group FaceTime and a lot more.
Other useful features such as the ability to use the AirPods as a hearing aid, the USB Restricted Mode, key improvements to the ResearchKit platform and automatic location sharing during 911 calls also arrive with iOS 12.
But before you proceed to register for Apple’s beta program and give iOS 12’s public beta build a try, do keep in mind that this is a pre-release software which might be loaded with bugs that can affect certain features and may also lead to data loss in some cases. So, if you are feeling really anxious and are bold enough to try out a beta software, back up all your data in advance.
However, we recommend you to employ a spare Apple device which you don’t use as your daily driver, or better yet, wait for the stable build of iOS 12 which is expected to arrive with the next generation of iPhones and iPads later this year.
