How to Unlock a Locked Snapchat Account

In Short
  • To unlock your locked Snapchat account, log in to your account and tap on Appeal Decision.
  • If that option isn't available, then directly contact the Snapchat support team.
  • If all else fails, you can only wait for your Snapchat to get unlocked on its own.

If your Snapchat account got locked for guideline violation, and you have no longer access to it, then you might be panicking right now. But don’t worry, there is still a chance to recover and unlock the account. So stick around as we take you through a few different ways to unlock your Locked Snapchat account. On that note, let’s check out the methods below.

Method 1: Send an Appeal to Snapchat

Sometimes, your account may be locked for a minor breach of Snapchat’s community guidelines. In that scenario, the app gives an option to appeal your account to unlock it.

To do this, log in to Snapchat, and tap on Appeal Decision when prompted. This will submit your appeal to the support team. They will review your application and reply with an email once they reach a decision. Then you can log back in and regain access to your account.

While your application is being reviewed, you can tap on Download My Data to recover your Snaps and photos. This can be useful when the decision does not come out in your favor and your account gets deleted.

Method 2: Reach Out to Snapchat Support

Let’s say you don’t get an option to appeal the decision. In that case, you can contact the Snapchat support team and tell them that you are unable to access your account. Here is how you can do it.

  1. Head over to the Snapchat support page (website).
  2. Select I can’t access my account.
  3. Now, choose My account is compromised.
  4. Then click on the contact Support here link.
  5. Next, select My account is compromised in the “Submit a request” page and fill out the form with the correct details.

While we would recommend you keep complete transparency with the support team, this Redditor did not disclose that their account was locked when describing the issue, and they got a proper response and their account got reinstated. You can read the post to learn about the process yourself.

Method 3: Log in to Snapchat Web

Some users who had their account locked were somehow still able to get access to it from the desktop version of Snapchat. While there is no guarantee that it will work, it is worth giving a shot if you have no option to appeal to unlock your account.

Just head over to web.snapchat.com and log in with your details. If you are able to get access to your account again, then we recommend that you keep a low profile and refrain from sending frequent Snaps and adding more friends.

Method 4: Wait For Your Account To Get Unlocked

If the above methods were of no help and did not result in your account getting unlocked, then the last best option is to wait it out. Probably, Snapchat will automatically unlock your account after a certain period and won’t delete it permanently.

However, there is no set timeframe for how long you will have to wait. It may take several weeks, months, or even a year. So, while you wait, avoid logging in to your account frequently, as this can result in permanent deletion. In the meantime, you can create a new account and use it from another device to avoid alerting Snapchat.

These are the few methods that can probably help you unlock your Snapchat account.
