In Short
  • James Bond cannot use his gun all the time in 007 First Light to shoot down enemies.
  • The guns are only usable when the 'Licence to Kill' situation is triggered.
  • This situation only happens when the player is in a highly restricted area or when the enemies are willing to shoot at them.

Unlike other shooter games, you cannot simply use guns in 007 First Light. Why? Because James Bond is a spy, not a gunslinger. The game puts primary emphasis on stealth and using gadgets to get your objectives. But that doesn’t mean it lacks combat or gunplay. The gunplay in 007 First Light is outstanding, but to use a gun, you need to meet certain conditions first. So, here is a quick guide on how to use guns in 007 First Light.

007 First Light Rules of Engagement Explained

In 007 First Light, there is a feature called Rules of Engagement. Here are all the Rules of Engagement available in the game:

  • Restricted Area
  • Trespassing
  • Reinforcements Incoming
  • Licence to Kill
  • Situation Contained

Now, out of all the Rules of Engagement, James Bond is only allowed to use his gun during the ‘Licence to Kill’ situation.

How to Use Guns in 007 First Light During Licence to Kill

To use guns in 007 First Light, players must trigger the Licence to Kill situation first. Bond’s License to Kill is triggered when an enemy shows clear intent to shoot or when he is in an active high-threat situation. In simpler words, when an area is highly restricted, and the guards will shoot you on sight, then only you are also allowed to shoot back.

Now, this doesn’t mean that any combat encounter will unlock the guns for you. Many of the combat encounters are close-range, without the use of guns. When your opponent is also planning to duke it out with you, then you will also have to follow the same rules, even if you are outnumbered. You can always use parry in 007 First Light to deal with the close combat encounters.

When a ‘Licence to Kill’ situation is created, a message will automatically appear at the top of the screen. The moment it does, you will get access to your guns and can start blasting at the enemies with full force.

This also means you can disarm enemies with a single shot and pick up their guns after eliminating them. Furthermore, you can also enter a focus state when you hold down your R3 button on your controller and slow down time to accurately shoot your enemies. However, this uses your instinct energy, so keep a check before you use it. Meanwhile, you can also use your gadgets in 007 First Light while Licence to Kill is active.
